I'm not entireley sure about those stats but even so Kubica is an excellent driver and is a strong contender for the world championship.

he is an excellent driver but I dont think a championship contender this year.

I think he is. He won't be winning races in the way Raikkonen, Massa and Hamilton will, but the fact that he's only two points behind those three with only one race win shows that he has the potential to stay on their heels right the way up to Brazil and we know that Kimi was a fair few points behind in the last round. He's an outsider, but the chance of him winning the championship is there nonetheless.

I must agree as we have seen many WDC's won by driver's with fewer win's but managed to stay in the hunt. It would be simply amazing if Kubica could steal the crown!

I dont think the car's up to taking the championship, not with the opposition being so strong.

Oh yes. Its not outside the realms of possibility. I think unlikely though.

I think Robert's chances on becoming WDC this year are more dependant on his rivals making mistakes or not finishing races, rather than on his own performance. But curiously enough, other drivers did "deliver" and he had the perfect opportunity to be on top again after Silverstone. While I do not actually think he'll win the championship, anything can happen. Plenty of races still to go.

the only stats that count are wins and points

My thoughts exactly. You can argue about who has done better in sub-standard machinery, but its silly to talk about anyone being statistically better than someone else who leads on points+wins.

There's only one qualification to that - the rule on the dead heat (was in the latest F1 Racing). If two drivers end the season with the same points, and the same number of wins, then you go to who has the most 2nd places? then who had the most 3rds? 4ths? And so on. And if this procedure doesn't produce a winner, the champion is chosen by the FIA "by such means it deems fit".

It would probably never happen, but I wonder what means they would use? Qualifying results? Laps led? Winning margins?

If Kubica keeps on consistently and finishes his races fairly high up he can just sit behind and wait while the main contenders are fighting for their championship. Rob can then come in and steal it. Ish like Kimi did.
