Well, could the impossible be possible. Could Alonso return to Mclaren?

If hamilton isn't delivering WDC or WCC by 2010 would Mclaren be under pressure to release him and bring back Alonso. But I guess Ron dennis should go out or maybe not. He said early on in the season that they do miss his experience. Was that a hint?

I think it's just an option, but nobody really knows as BMW-Sauber are tight-lipped re. contracts.

After his antics last year i wonder how much his reputation has suffered in the paddock

But also, with Mclaren's behaviour this yr... i am certain most team bosses will understand what Alonso meant.
And you know what... I think Alonso was right.
And you know what else... I think Mclaren would have been in a better position had they kept Alonso.
And you know even what more... EVERYBODY knows that. Except Bud :)

would love to see him at either ferrari or bmw...which is more likely to take him? ferrari if kimi retires or bmw if they drop heidfeld?

KR won't retire until the end of his contract (end of 2009) if he does. And NH is under considerable pressure and probably on his way out. DC is a goner as well, so Red Bull could be a secondary option if BMW Sauber won't pan out for FA.

But BMW looks kind of nice team, and NH did help them develop in the past years... so I don't think they'll just dump him after single bad year. But who knows?

It seems like Kubica thinks well of Alonso :!:

I can't recall Schumacher pushing out Williams drivers out of the track in his early years did damage his reputation... much. After all, I don't think we know whole truth about Alonso - Hamilton/Ron feud. Another important factor is - BMW might decide they do need his experience to give their car development that final step in order to make them fully competitive.

Actually, if Hamilton & McLaren don't win WDC/WCC by 2010, I'd expect Hamilton to decide to switch team looking for his chance to get a title - by then he'd be very desperate... and, considering his flirting with Williams, I don't really think he's so faithful to McLaren. And considering his ego, I'm sure he'll be thinking McLaren is the only responsible for him not having title already (no matter how distant from the truth that might be).

On the other side, I don't think Ron would EVER admit being wrong by calling Alonso back. After Ron, well, who knows? But putting Alonso's pride in the pot - and that is another huge ingredient - I can't see whole recipe working out.

I'm wondering if Lewis ever had a thought he might have screwed out McLaren big way... Nah.

If Alonso anounces in july he is leaving renault at the end of the season, then we will know he has signed a deal with someone else. and dont think it will be Ferrari. It could only be BMW. And I think if he announces it in july, then something must already be sorted and discussed now. An there seems to be big arrows pointing at BMW. maybe thats why Heidfelt has been feeling it abit this year..

but then again who knows..

I would like to see Bruno (not spengler) take the renault seat alongside Hiedfelt in 2009. that could be interesting :D

I wonder if toyota are going to come into it at all, lets face it glock hasnt done a great job this season and trulli is getting close to his use by date and the team could use someone like alonso to help develop the car (that hurt me to say that).
Toyota can be up there with the big boys more often they just need to get their driver signings sorted out

I agree completely with the first paragraph. Whilst I think what you say in your second paragraph is the most likely, a seed of doubt is planted in my mind when I think back to Dennis asking Prost to come back to McLaren for the 1994 season (although I understand Prost and Dennis' differences never sank as far as that blackmail and bribery that Alonso deployed).

I'm not totally sure what to think about the idea of Alonso coming back to McLaren. If Hamilton is still at the team, I don't think it would be a good idea. Also, there is the chance that Hamilton will improve and stop making his gaffes. If he does that, which he probably will, I'd tolerate his super-sized ego. If Hamilton, for one reason or another, was not at McLaren, I'd probably bring Alonso back to McLaren. As much as he can be underhand and arrogant, he is a class act as a driver. As with Hamilton's arrogance, I'd be prepared to make some concessions on his personality etc. to have him on board.

You know, I actually thought that is exactly what Alonso should do... follow Schumacher footsteps, that is. He's got 2 titles with Renault (like MS did with Beneton) so he should have joined team with loads of money and desperate need for big calibre driver (like Ferrari was at the time). With 2 titles in the pocket he should have no reason to rush his 3rd one, he would have loads of money with Toyota (Honda, Red Bull) and if he would manage to bring them to top form, they would worship him like a God. A real fulfilling career.

I would probably look for Honda (because of Ross Brown) or RB (because of Adrian) even if money is better at Toyota, but one or another, principle is the same.

I dont know about Honda, Button has kinda built the team around him i dont think Alonso would fit in there, Red bull would be a possibility but i think toyotas resources will appeal to Alonso

No doubt that Fernando has the talent and ability to do it the way that schumi did but i don't think he has the patience. He wants to win it all right now which is why he is willing to leave Renault and go to Ferrari instead of leading that team back to former glory's
