The problem with french grand prix is a lack of venue options, the only other permant track that would be suitable to F1 is Paul ricard and really it lacks character and can you say you would really enjoy watching a F1 race on that track, not to mention the lack of grandstands etc for spectators.
I hope a street race in Paris does go ahead although im not holding my breath

A lot of people say bring Imola back and then slag off places like Magny Cours and Catalunya (which I totally agree with btw), but thinking about it, I'm struggling to recall an exciting and memorable San Marino grand prix since I started watching around 95/96.

Is it a character thing? It's a strange situation because I agree and would love to see it back, but I'm really not sure why (apart from the obvious Ferrari link).

I'd drop Catalunya, Magny Cours and Hockenheim from all future calendars. There needs to be races in the France and the US as far as I'm concerned, but NOT at Indy. It's a terrible lifeless track. I'm different in that I quite like the 'new' Nurburgring.

Paul Ricard did used to have a tonne of grandstands back before they re-furbished it. The track layout hasn't changed, although some extra bits have been added allowing approximately 100 circuit configurations to be used.

Imola hasn't been the same since 1/5/1994. The old Tamburello we loved and hate is gone, the aqua minerale chicane is no more and also Villeneuve is no longer a fast sweeping section before you jam on the brakes before Tosa.

It's like Spa without Eau Rouge, Suzuka without the 130R, Laguna Seca without the Corkscrew. :(

Even after Tamburello and Villeneuve were tamed, Imola still had something to offer and still had something of a decent rhythm in the final part of the circuit. Ruining the Variante Alta was, for me, the final straw for the track.

I agree in some ways the new tracks are becoming to 'safe'. Dont get me wrong i dont wanna see people die any more but at the same time part of the thrill of high performance motorsport is the risk factor and taking away fast sweeping corners and putting in chicanes all over the place is ruining motorsport.
Some of the best races ive ever seen were on the old Imola its now just a sad sad shadow of the great track it once was

I agree with you that we don't want to see drivers dying, but I feel we have gone too far with safety in the sense that things that weren't really dangerous have been outlawed. As I've said before, the most recent issue was Coulthard claiming a traction control ban was dangerous! Come on! Get real! Thankfully, this time, the FIA didn't listen to this gibberish.
