All that begin with M then

I agree with you about Montreal, it's a super track to drive. Istanbul is great and I'm a big fan of Sepang and Shanghai. Silverstone's a great track but on games I'm never any good there :(

I'm really warming to Fuji and I think Bahrain is a nice circuit for passing.

I think the Singapore circuit will look fantastic, whether in the day or night, but ultimately as I said in my original post, I think Valencia will provide fantastic racing. I can't see at the moment where you can really pass in Singapore just by looking at the layout.

Haha wow I never noticed they all began with M :) I also have a difficult time at silverstone, that long right hander gives me so much trouble on Forza 2!

agreed about Singapore, but I think I'm just excited because its a night race. Its pretty cool how they added 2 new street courses to the schedule. I personally think street courses make good races, aswell as with road courses that have elavation changes.

Street circuits make good racing if they are done properly. Melbourne and Montreal are very similar to each other, and they both create exciting action.

Don't get me wrong the night race will be very interesting, and that alone might compensate for a lack of legitimate passing with drivers making mistakes and going off.

I know you're from Laguna Seca but which tracks in North or South America do you like the best excluding Laguna?

I couldnt agree with you more on if street courses are done properly. I attended the San Jose GP last year for the Champ Car race, and that had to have been the worst track I've ever been too. The marshals were dickheads there and they wouldnt let me along with 5 other people sit on a ledge that wasnt even in a dangerous position. And the reason we did that was because there were stupid signs all along the fences so that you couldnt see crap. And the track layout was absolutely horrible too.

I attended the Long Beach GP about 3 weeks ago, and it was fantastic. There was a lot of stuff to look at, and it had great viewing postions. The only thing I dont like about street courses is where the paddocks are located. They always seem to be crammed into a little space. I posted pictures that I took there in another thread in the Other Motorsport section. But all in all I had a good time there.

I've been to infineon raceway (I call it Sears Point, because thats its original name) but I went there to see a Drag race. I havent seen a race on the road course, but it sure has quite a bit of elavation changes. I will probably go to the IRL race there this year now that Champ Car and the IRL are unified. I used to be a huge CART fan. I loved it sooo much more than F1, but then of course it died out and now F1 is my favorite motorsport.

I beleive thats all the race tracks I've been too. Frankly, I would like to see a street race in Las Vegas on The Strip.

Hey great article, I think your right about tracks, some just don't have the obvious opportunities. Hopefully we can go back to the late 90s/early 2000s.

We won't be going to Magny Cours sadly and for me with the 09 regs I think we'd have seen gd racing there.

Also anyone seen the new A1-Gp car based on Ferrari's 2004 car? I'm not a big fan of the series but the new car looks good. They have the right idea for close racing and overtaking and have used this principle for next seasons new car.

Also autosport are claiming it's raining in Istanbul today, why couldn't it have done that yesterday :(?

I think the Long Beach track is a very interesting one. Also there are a couple of clear cut places to pass which makes it a bit different from some of the other ones.

Sears Point is a nice track, you don't see that sort of circuit much anymore. The NASCAR races there are better than the ones at the Glen, and the weather is usually nice as well.

They used to host the US GP at Caesar's palace, in one of the massive car parks there.

I came across this thread again today in my 'most posted in' thread on my User Panel.

I wonder if now we all have a good idea of what the new cars will look like, and after another almost full season of F1 since this thread started, whether or not anyone's opinions have changed on the cars or the tracks discussed originally.

Thanks in advance for your opinions :)

Hockenheim

I know that a lot of people preferred the old Hockenheim, and the slipstreaming battles through the forests were fantastic, and provided close exciting racing. Sadly, it is no more, but the new track is a very good one for Formula One to have. The run to the hairpin after the easy turn 3 encourages passing moves, as does the run out of the hairpin, as Button and Alonso demonstrated so well in 2004. You can also have a brave stab into either turn one or two, but these are currently long shots. Getting rid of aero would open up more chances into these corners, and also into the difficult Opelkurve heading into the old stadium section. This in turn would open the door for a lunge into the hairpin at Sachskurve.

Who are you kidding? New Hockenheim is garbage, I would rather watch NASCAR.
