Well this means that a new F1 team should fill the gap, Jordan/Stoddart?

unfortunately a new team to enter F1 would need to start from scratch, its not like anyone can buy out Super Aguri's infrastructure as they dont have the facilities to design and build their own chassis. so one would think a large company not a privateer will be able to enter as the 11th team.

VW and Porsche have already stated that they won't be entering F1 for the time being. VW said because the costs are to high and Porsche said because of the MM scandal.

I wonder if Hyundai come in just in time for the SK race in 2010...

As far as I can see this isn't all bernie's fault. Aguri owes honda £50 million for engines and other parts and could not pay up. Secondly rising transport costs would have hurt the budget and TV revenue cannot be much as they are at the back. In the current climate F1 costs will continue to rise and therefore smaller teams will not have the money to compete. Bernie is responsible for the rules and so should allow customer cars within a certain limit but fuel costs, transport costs and development costs is something that he can't control and so the smaller teams will suffer. Williams is next...

It's going to be hard for any new teams to enter F1 in its current climate.

a shame, but its a sign of things to come, if i wasnt already in formula 1 and i was a manufacturer id rather put my money in a lot of other things

It's always a sad time when a team is forced to withdraw from F1, especially in circumstances beyond its control, and in this case it was Super Aguri.

Super Aguri will never be forgotten, they won't go down with the "flop" teams like Andrea Moda, Life, Pacific, EuroBrun et al. An everlasting memory of them will be Sato's pass on Alonso at Canada last year and almost finishing ahead of the Honda works team.

Bernie REALLY needs to start looking at what his wallet is doing to the sport, not what's going in it. 2009 can't come any sooner now, because hopefully Mad Max will be gone, budget caps will come into place, and the aero-restrictions on the cars could reduce the costs of developing the car (ie. less fiddly bits to plaster on, more room for ingenuity).

So who do we reckon are going to step into the breach? I hope EJ and Stoddy do, we know for sure that Stoddy WILL if Mad Max goes.

This news is terrible. Maybe if Piquet's performance carries on being poor Renault will replace him with Davidson. Taku will probably end up in a Honda test seat awaiting Barrichello's retirement, though I would imagine Conway will get that one. #

I think that Eddie Jordan would be more likely to do it than Paul Stoddart, who is most likely waiting for Toro Rosso to go up for sale so he can have Minardi back.

Good call, perhaps Stoddy's negotiating with Red Bull or Gerhard Berger right now as we speak. Remember when he said he would have come to Aguri's rescue if the Magma deal didn't go through? He wasn't there this time, so perhaps he's buying back his old team.

Sir Frank should sign up Davidson, Honda blocked his attempts to sign him after Jenson bought out his contract, and Davidson showed last year on occasions - when the car let him - what he was capable of. Davidson's got more experience as well, something Williams don't have with Nakajima, Hulkenberg and to an extent Rosberg.

I hope Davidson takes Coulthards spot next year, and I think it probably will happen. As for Sato, I think he will end up being the test driver for Honda like you said.
