That would be an idea. Especially the new track at Singapore, seeing as it's going to use extra power for all of those lights. Tracks powered by green sources would be a good step towards cleaning up the pollution levels created in F1. Same with team factories and any other facilities that they use, such as wind tunnels. Of course, changes like that would have to go a lot further than F1 to make any kind of impact on the environment.

yeah, its only really the example they set i suppose, im all for things like not selling normal light bulbs because other ones are eventually cheaper, everyone wins!

With their immense budgets I think F1 teams should be in the forefront of the hydrogen fuel cell development and deployment in their race cars. If they really wanted to go green, make hydrogen mandatory by 2011 and see how fast the car companies come up with a viable and powerful engine that then will get affordable for consumer cars as well.

They're not going to implement any such change to the engine formula in 2009. Otherwise what would the point in the engine freeze have been?

theres a car put now that runs on compressed air!

i think F1 needs to take a leading role in a greener powerplant not only for the sport itself but also to trinkle the green message all the way down to karting.

mcfan on the greenhouse effect, while climate change is not a new thing the rate it is happening now is. theres a saying in physics every action has an equal and opposite reaction which i think applies to human kinds actions. it goes without saying what we are doing is having an affect on the world.

It's actually more than a saying, it's a law: actio = reactio (the Latin version).

Good old Isaac Newton came up with the three laws of motion:

1. A physical body will remain at rest, or continue to move at a constant velocity, unless an unbalanced net force acts upon it.
2. The net force on a body is equal to its mass multiplied by its acceleration.
3. For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

Check out the Fisker: http://www.fiskerautomotive.com/index.p ... /features/

It also has a solution to the silent motor, which might worry pedestrians with bad eyesight and disappoint sports car freaks keen to hear their machine roar.
Fisker said the company added speakers inside and outside the vehicle. One option will allow drivers to make their car sound "like something between a Formula One car and a jet plane" and loud enough to be heard by pedestrians.
Fisker said most car makers tinker with the sound of the engine. "It's been enhanced and manipulated to make sure it sounds good," he said. "Part of any experience is the acoustic experience."

Formula One mentioned by a green California car maker, hm, that sounds like progress.

This once great racing sport is becoming a laughing joke.
F1 is about no holds barred, technology at it's best.
Put the greatest cars in the best drivers hands and let them go at it.
Bernie needs to go away as well as any other people who try to drag political issues into F1 racing.
Enough with the "Green" issues as this has nothing to do with F1.
Certain people are blown up with themselves and feel "obligated" to destroy the only super licence motor sport in the world.
Hold strong for driver safety within car and course design but, stop there.

Victory in the short-term, maybe. But there are environmental impacts with all motor sports and indeed all aspects of civilisation that need to be considered. There's no point in having this amazingly awesome sport if we can't enjoy it ;)

unless you are planing on living till your 500,000 years old then you won't be around to care. I understand your point however that F1 should be greener. One thing that we are not factoring in is the transportation costs. Transport planes, trucks and bernie and max's private jet all contribute much more to the environment that 70 laps on the track. F1 is going green because Al gore says that the planet is warming up. However there are a number of scientist's that dispute this and till it's proved fact F1 should not go green because it limits development

On the flip-side of that, if it does eventually get proved fact, the damage may already have been done, at which point it's a little too late. I've already mentioned in another post that transportation is a factor, as is powering all the venues and indeed the factories. If Formula 1 is, as it is said, the pinnacle of motorsports and is supposed to be setting an example to the rest of the world, then there are already a great deal of things they should be using. One of these is 100% biofuels, not 5% biofuels, which will have little impact on emissions.

All of their transportation methods should rely on biofuels rather than fossil fuels. The venues should produce their own power, using things such as solar panels, wind turbines and, where appropriate, hydroelectric power generating systems. Factories should also take the same approach.

Of course, motorsports are a very small part of the environmental impacts. The transportation industry creates a significant amount of pollution, as do a number of factories producing all kinds of things. Power stations also contribute a lot. So there's definitely a massive amount of work to do. But F1 would be a start, then all motorsports, and finally everyone else after that.

I agree, especially considering the insane amount of money that gets poured into F1. Rather than chasing for a tenth here and there, they should commit themselves to finding solutions to this problem, a beacon of reason so to speak...
