i will agree with you there
they are major contenders for the title

Hmmm maybe you misunderstood my statement. I believe Alonso can get a win or two along with maybe a couple of podiums. Apart from that, Renault is not likely to for WDC nor WCC. 3rd in WCC at the optimistic most.

Very well put and Renault's outcome this season will be more of a chassis factor and having a rookie on the team. Alonso I believe will make, because of his skill, what seem's to be an uncompetative chassis at the moment dare I say a potential race winning combo?

Alonso is very good at car development. I'm not convinced he has the most raw pace of any driver, but his overtaking abilities and, like I say, development skills are very good. Renault will benefit from having him back, and by the looks of the testing times they dearly need him. I expect Renault to start off slow and maybe make some gains towards the end of the season, but, unless there are some exceptional circumstances, I think points rather than podiums are on the agenda.

Very well put and I agree that moving up the ladder in point's is most crucial to the team this season.

It will be an interesting situation if F.A. & L.H. are approaching a corner side by side. Both are good at overtaking, niether likes to give way and there is a drop of bad blood in there as well. I hope that F.A. can get the Renault in amongst the McLs and Fairys cos that will be a lovely stew.

Both are good at overtaking

Both?
Alonso: yes i think he is really good at overtaking.
Lewis: I personally haven't seen 1 memorable or even great pass form him in F1 yet. I see him more as consistent good pace, great qualifier.

Yes both. I have seen some great overtaking by L.H. in F1 and GP2.
Anyone else think that LH iis not a good overtaker?

Why does one's faith and support of a particular team make them oblivious to reality?

GP2 aerodynamics are very different from F1, so I wouldn't compare it 100%
As for F1... I've only seen 1 considerable pass (to Kimi in Monza) and it was far from memorable.

Don't get me wrong, Lewis is a very good driver, but so far he hasn't shown much passing ability. In fact, as I remember... he made a couple of attempts (to an EQUAL car) and ended up looking pretty bad.

Again... I'm not bashing Lewis, just saying what I think from what i have seen.

What about the starts in his first few races and taking Massa.Otherwise he's mostly been at or near the front. In GP2 Turkey-about 16 passes at least in one race!! All in same cars and at Silverstone 3 abreast into Beckets and lewis first out sending Piquet through the advertising hoarding. I saw both live. the boy can overtake :D:D

Lewis can also defend well, you only have to look at Malaysia when he held off Massa multiple times at the same corner and eventually Massa going wide and losing a few places. Also he held his line well when he and Alonso went wheel-to-wheel down the main straight at Indianapolis. :)

so far... only GP2 references, starts and defending...

The way I see it: he's done some good passing in another category, he has had really good starts (with TC, and ECU assist let's not forget) and a couple of good defensive moves. Other than that... I just don't see it. Seriously. At least not yet.

Here's a nice  thought:

He is a good passer, isn't him?
He showed he can disobey 'team orders', or not?
And... he was faster than Alonso at Monaco '07, now wasn't he?
so what happened?

Nothing wrong with disobeying "team orders" :D, if only Barrichello disobeyed them at Austria in 2002.

Yes GP2 is different but that was where LH developed his single seater style, he loves to overtake. He has not done as much overtaking in F1 but it is more difficult (maybe easier now with new rules) in F1 and he was, after all, a rookie! 8)

First couple of races in 2007 off the start line and through the first corner and Monza, perhaps for Ferrari fans they're not too memorable and talking of messing up a move what about FA in Canada and Spain and could he make it stick (to an EQUAL car) in the US?.

Seeing a driver in his 2nd ever F1 race take 2 Ferraris on the first corner and then hold them off for the rest is not something easily forgotten.
