Alonso is very good at car development. I'm not convinced he has the most raw pace of any driver, but his overtaking abilities and, like I say, development skills are very good. Renault will benefit from having him back, and by the looks of the testing times they dearly need him. I expect Renault to start off slow and maybe make some gains towards the end of the season, but, unless there are some exceptional circumstances, I think points rather than podiums are on the agenda.
Ayrton Senna: WDC 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991
McLaren: WCC 1974, 1984, 1985, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1998, 1999, 2007

i will agree with you there
they are major contenders for the title
Hmmm maybe you misunderstood my statement. I believe Alonso can get a win or two along with maybe a couple of podiums. Apart from that, Renault is not likely to for WDC nor WCC. 3rd in WCC at the optimistic most.
Very well put and Renault's outcome this season will be more of a chassis factor and having a rookie on the team. Alonso I believe will make, because of his skill, what seem's to be an uncompetative chassis at the moment dare I say a potential race winning combo?
