no one is saying that Mcl should be penalized becuase they let the files go out of the factory?! the same thing that someone said of Ferrari...

In all fairness to the FIA this is exactly what they did to McLaren at first. It was not until they went BACK in front of the FIA that they were hit with the big fine.

If anything else were to come out from Renault (new evidence) then they would clearly have to be hit hard. McLaren would have escaped penalty had they shown the FIA everything in the first hearing.

I have no objection to McLaren. When they teamed up Kimi and Montoya they became my favorite team for a while. The three point star in my driveway is mostly because of McLaren. But I have to be a realist and the fact is that this is not as big of a travesty as some in here are making it out to be.

It doesn't look so much of a travesty because the way the landscape was. Despite there being more evidence against Renault than what there was against McLaren, the FIA can still point to x, y and z, so it looks as though they're being consistent in their verdicts and have no issues with McLaren or Ron Dennis.

with absolutely no consistency

that's not fair, they've always been 'anti-mclaren'.

 If they were found guilty they should be punished just like McLaren were no question about it.
Will be interested to see the reason for the decision.

I think the decision is somewhere consistant with the WMSC part 1 decision McLaren received. But I also think that original decision was wrong. You can't rob a bank and only be punished for benefitting from spending the cash! The regulations are clear and McLaren should have been punished at WMSC part 1; because the FIA chose not to they set a precedent which they have followed.

What is sad for F1 is that we now have a situation where it is deemed acceptable to be in possession of competitors information as long as it cannot be proven that you have benefitted from it.

Having said all that, I think it is dangerous to compare both cases as there are similarities and differences, it is only fair to see what he full transcript reveals tomorrow.
