You put far too much pressure on your teams by overstating their chances and, when you actually do win something for the first time in ages, never shut up about it.

Not *all* of us y'know ;)
But I know what you mean - we're still harping on about winning the football in '66. You'd think we (as a nation) would have got over it by now ;)

Fair enough. I'm not saying, by the way, people cannot be passionate about their teams, but, for some, slightly less arrogance and little more realism would be welcome the world over.

It's the same all around the word that's just the way it is.

You mustn't have spent long in Britain. :)

By the way, I'd no intentions of offending anybody on here. I'm just stating my view based on my own experience of living in the country.

It'd odd how Britain went crazy with Mansell-Mania but there wasn't really much of a Hill or Coulthard Mania when they were the top Brits. The support was there, just not as barmy as Mansell/Lewis-Mania, and I was at Silverstone for Hill's famous victory in 1994. I'll have to see if I can dig up the pics some day, we were stood at Copse. :)

Heh, I agree with you. I can't get drum up the passion to support Hamilton because I'd sick of all the gumpf the media spout in this country. It's why I'm supporting Super Aguri ;)

Perhaps it was partly because Mansell was genuinely very good and an exciting, never say never driver. Hill was lucky to be in such a fantastic car and Coulthard, while being very good, didn't have that little bit extra to be a world champion. Whilst Hill and Coulthard had a few good races, there was a lot of excitement, tragic moments etc. about them. (All of this is quite ironic given that Mansell is probably the least cool out of the three! )

When he was on Top Gear 2 years ago, Clarkson said that, and Mansell said his tache "fell off" and it was a go-faster stripe. :P

Hey I didn't want to offend anyone with this thread, I just thought I'd share my thoughts. Shame I'm not a Hamilton supporter otherwise I wouldn't mind all this exposure he's getting.

Well I like watching Lewis race because I think he's the most exciting driver out there at the moment. The most exciting races ive seen him in were in GP2,before the media were taking any notice of him. I watched him live twice and he was stunning, couldn't wait for him to get into F1 and couldn't believe there was a debate as to whether he should have the drive. I still think we're far from seeing his full potential yet in F1, the best is to come. The media are a pain we all have to suffer, Lewis in particular. It doesnt stop me enjoying his racing just because the media are on his case, He's still a great racer. :D

I think he should have been penalised for having illegal aerodynamic devices.

Yes, Hamilton is good but as usual British people - the English in particular - get all excited about their sports 'stars' and bum up their chances of winning.

How? Because we put too much pressure on them?

Because... you make him think he's better than he really is..?

In short, you spoil him, and spoiled kids are usually not the best achievers.
