I think Clark/Chapman and Senna/Dennis (not to mention Fangio/Moss/Neubauer) are all combinations as romantic as Villeneuve/Ferrari personally. If anything I'd say Clark/Chapman was the purest partnership.

what about alonso? he has an aggressive style where he turns the car into the corner violently and that is going to destroy the tyres. I think he'll have a hard 2008 even if he is in a title winning car

Clark/Chapman and the Villeneuve/Ferrari partnership's were imho the greatest partnership's ever as they were based solely on the love of motorsport's/racing and honest competition.

Great insight 'onelapdown' thank you.

should think button will have a good season, webber i would think will do well. hamilton might have trouble, he may over-steer a bit too much without TC, with his way of driving more likely to spin off. kubica is another who may have a cracking season.

have to agree with you all as well :)

Ha! Exactly opposite to what I think- as regards Hamilton and Kubica. Dont nink Kubica will cut it .Well we'll just have to see. Be really interesting :D

Yeah, but even though I dislike Schumacher and Ferrari I've got to say the combination of Schumacher and Brawn was spectacularly good. Brawn the master strategist, and Schumacher the driver with the intelligence to understand the strategy and the ability to carry it off perfectly. It's a shame pitstop strategy is such a dull way to win a race, otherwise myself and others would probably not feel such an animosity for them.

But pitstop strategy is in all form's of racing thus your animosity is strictly biased to F1?

There weren't and pitstops in F1 between the late fifties and mid nineties, and there aren't any in GP2, F3, BTCC, and so on. Now it's not that I don't appreciate a well-worked strategy, but I'd much sooner see drivers beat each other on the track.

If you believe that then ignorance is bliss, strategy has been apart of motor racing since it's inception. Exactly how long have you watched motorsport's or been a fan?

Long enough, now don't patronise me... I did miss out pitstops for tyres, but that's not quite the same thing. My point is that passing people in pitstops is the least interesting way to win a motor race, and I'd prefer a driver to show his brilliance during the race than in the debrief room beforehand.
