Ok. But you know Bernie. If he thinks he can cause a bit if mayhem he'll switch a date and make it clash.

Bernie threatened it a few years ago, he was threatening the FIA with a French GP on the same weekend as Le Mans, so the FIA made a rule that no F1 event can take place on the same weekend of the 24 Hour Le Mans last year.

Remind me, wasn't the Super Bowl on the same weekend as the inaugural Austin race?

It was a nascar race, and the FIA doesn't have time to care about those rednecks

It was the Texas 'rednecks' loosing out to F1!

"No wonder Texas Motor Speedway president Eddie Gossage got all upset when Formula One decided to hold the U.S. Grand Prix at Circuit of the Americas in Austin on the same day as the NASCAR race at his Fort Worth track.
When you look at the attendance at the three Big Event sports spectacles on offer in that state Sunday, the loser turned out to be Texas Speedway."

I thought the sport was dying due to lack of competition?

F1 this year at Austin was a massive success for F1 and the hope in the future is that there will be more cross over of the two disciplines.
But I thought the inaugural one ( not this years) clashed with the US showcase of Indy 500? Might be wrong there.

Indy happens around the last Sunday in May. It was a NASCAR event as far as I recall. This year as well and the NASCAR drivers were paying attention to the F1 results. :D

Uh, Super Bowl is in February (FYI)...

Can you tell I don't follow football? Do you remember what the "other" big event going on at the same time was?

The three major events this year in Texas on that Sunday afternoon were the F1 race, the Nascar race and the NFL game between Dallas and Arizona.

Seems that Alonso probably will not be taking part in LeMans. Complications at McLaren will not allow FA to drive.

“Fernando Alonso looks unlikely to be able to squeeze the Le Mans 24 Hours into his 2015 schedule, despite trying hard to convince McLaren to grant permission for him to do the race.”

McLaren have always been very tight with their drivers availability for anything other than bleeding for the team. They dont even allow their drivers personal sponsorship or external ties, and they require the drivers to toe the line with the teams sponsors at all times. They even keep the drivers trophies and give him a copy, and as if it couldnt get worse they even have to voice over some cartoons in between races. Interesting how Lewis ends up with the most reasonable team in this respect and Alonso ends up with the most draconian

Guess he aint that complete afterall

Personally, I wouldn't care about conflicts of interest with different corporations involved,
I'd be more concerned about the health/welfare of my driver/s. Accidents happen.

Looks like the Fonz doesn't have it all figured out, unlike what he tries to project to everyone.

I would think both points are of concern.

You're right! Ok, so... MOST of my concern would be for the driver's health/welfare
and the interests of the corporations involved would be secondary to that.

Alonso has 'decided' he can't fit Le Mans in his schedule and will concentrate fully on McLaren and the work he has to do there.
