I genuinely don't understand F1 fans who don't like Monaco. High speed and always extremely close to the barriers, real precision stuff needed at all times.

And it's simply not true to say that it's always a procession; I can think of at least 6-8 races over the past 20 years where it was exciting if only superficial overtaking is your thing.

Even as a Hamilton fan, I'm getting a little bored of the Mercedes domination already. Hopefully another team can bring it to them, and make it a bit more of the unknown, when it comes to the winner.

Domination can be boring, yes, but what helps is when the drivers in the dominating team are close. It's going to be very tough for anyone to catch Merc this year, so all I hope for is that we get to enjoy a decent, recurring scrap between Lewis and Nico.

We've had that in Bahrain and Spain, and hopefully it will be repeated more often than not.

You are right, its nowhere near the one-man domination that last season was. But id still prefer a few more teams to be in it.

Lewis is dominating yes but there's still a fight taking place with Nico. If you thought last nights GP was a dominant one man show then you had more faith than me. I was sure Nico was going to pip him at the end.
Uncertainty like this makes races fun to watch!

Nico HAS to win at Monaco if he wants to challenge for this championship without relying on more DNFs for Lewis, I half expect one of the Merc drivers to put it in the wall, Lewis sounded rattled last race, and Nico will be oh so desperate for a win, but they will probably proove how good they are again by another 1-2

Lewis can afford a 2nd here Imo, but I think he has his eyes on the most wins in a season, and possibly consecutive wins records, he will not let up.

I dont get all the hate for Monaco, it is automaticly more exciting just knowing that if they get it slightly wrong they will be in the barrier, and when you have a close head to head battle like we have, the pressure only increases

I like Monaco.

I dont see Hamilton as someone who chases records - but I do see him as desperate for his 2nd championship, and therefore not settling for anything but a win.

I think Maldonado will crash.

Nico is not in Lewis's class. Nico was never close enough to actually try and pass and remember, he was handed 3+ seconds in pit stop benefits and Lewis had his front wing adjustment confusion.

I'm ready to call it Lewis's title now and I think he has the chance to write some great records into the books in terms of consecutive wins. I can't see anyone beating him anywhere, perhaps a Red Bull if they really stay focused on their car and keep the improvements coming for a sustained period of time.

I would love to see Dan get a win this year

I really don't like this notion of record collecting. It seemed to be Vettel's obsession, meaningless stats, collecting them at will like xbox on easy setting. They should be a by product of success not a motivation for it. And I know you weren't implying that, spanky, but the further into the season we go the more it'll get talked about, and it's a barometer of absolutely nothing, but people will prattle on regardless, trying to lend it weight and credence.

I'd really like to believe Hamilton's above that, or it's way down the list.

If Nico does not get a win in Monaco, then it's pretty much all over for him as a serious contender. I suspect that Lewis will have the upper hand in Canada, Silverstone, Germany, Hungary, Spa, Monza... Monaco is critical. We're going to see quite a bit of wall kissing.

:yikes: I just realized, with these cars, the wall of champions in Montreal is going to be a spectacle this year!

Good comment there Mr. Rothchild, I agree. We've seen Lewis leave a fast lap or two on the table that would have given his a fast lap. The only meaningful record this year will be team race wins and a clear product of their success. Mercedes could win them all, and that will be quite an accomplishment indeed.

I have to say, the thing that haunts me is this bloody double-points for the finale. If we have a bit of back and forth and Lewis has a 49 point advantage (and that would be big) going into the last race and he breaks down/gets taken out/finishes 2nd or worst, Nico could actually win the WDC despite Lewis having way more wins and Nico just racking up the P2s. Anyone already sorted the mathematics on what it would take for Lewis to not have to face this as a possibility? (Meaning, how many race wins Lewis would need regardless of Nico's wins and seconds.)

TBH one of the good things about the stupid double points thing this year, it's not going to have an effect. Lewis will have the WDC tied up long before then. They will dump it after this year.

Spanky, you are likely right but sport is a tricky bit. Just when you think you know something, the racing gods have a good laugh at your expense.
