The reason why so many think they won't shed a tear if Monaco leaves is because we haven't had a wet Monaco race in freakin ages. I think the last one was 2008 where Lewis crashed his tyre into pieces and still won the race.

A wet Monaco race can easily turn out to be the race of the season and I don't mind waiting a few years to see 1.

Not for me; I have seen lots of wet Monaco races; apart from more crashes, it's still pretty dull and processional in my view.

It's rare that Monaco is the race of the season. Sometimes it happens, more often than not, it isn't. In recent times, great Monaco races for me include 2004 and 2008, and I suppose last year's was pretty decent too.

Singapore is a much better venue IMHO, and the races are more exciting.

Monaco is more about history, glamour and tradition, than the actual racing.

However, would I drop it from the calendar? No.

Let's phrase the question differently; if it were a choice of losing Spa, Monza, Silverstone or Monaco, which would it be? I believe Bernie would ditch the other three before Monaco!

Do we get Silverstone replaced with Brands Hatch or Knock Hill (50 second laps and that last corner would be immense! )

Oh I would definitely choose Monaco to go, over those other ones!

(However, fingers crossed all 4 remain on the calendar for the long term).

Singapore is a no-mans land track, the streets are so wide it's hardly even street racing. There's no suspense whatsoever, take off the night factor and it'd be as much of a bore as Valencia. :hehe:

In Monaco anyone can kiss the barrier at any second, and I don't find this thrill on any other circuit. The starts of Monaco almost always promises disaster, especially a WET start. I remember my heart pumping hardest for those.

I'd say the same barrier risk is at Singapore, surely? The track may be a little wider, but there has been at least one safety car each year at Singapore due to cars clouting the barriers. In fact, in recent years, I think we've seen more safety cars / crashes at Singapore than at Monaco! Maybe I'm wrong... :P

Possibly, but they have usually been silly crashes late in the race. Who can remember that massive shunt at Monaco a couple of years ago when Vettel, Alonso and Button were going wheel to wheel behind 5 backmarkers that shunted into each other at the swimming pool? Now that was a crash!

Yeh, I remember it well, heart-in-the-mouth times!

I judge a track on two things. Is it fun to watch and is it fun on Xbox. Sh*t criteria, i know, but I'm pretty sure Bernie judges tracks exactly the same way; it's why Turkey got dropped. Singa and Valencia aren't exciting races usually but are great on Xbox. Monaco fails on both but it's Monaco, so y'know, hands off.

Glad I'm not the only one! Really, I love bahrain and turkey because they're two of my favorites on xbox, and a lot of people refer to bahrain as bore-rain

On another note, one of the main reasons I like monaco is because it's such a great track to show new fans. When I link somebody a youtube video of an onboard lap at monaco and they've never seen F1 before, they're completely blown away by how fast it looks since the track is so tight, even though it's the slowest track on the calendar in terms of average speed. Of course, I don't tell them that. I just let them enjoy the perceived speed so maybe they'll wanna come over and watch any of the races with me. So, to sum it up, monaco may be processional, but it is a great track as far as the sights (cars, ocean, yachts, models, celebrities) that might allure new fans who aren't quite as enthralled with the sheer engineering brilliance of the cars as the rest of us.
