You'd probably write a snide comment if they did in another attempt to belittle them but we have somehow accepted you as you are.

Not unless there is no other way forward, and there is no one using the ladder

otherwise one would look stupid just standing there

The solution is simple - find an alternative route or take down the ladder, move past where the ladder was then put it back up again. No point taking any chances.

Why would you mess around doing all that when there was no one up the ladder? Youd have the same chances as getting hit on the head as if the ladder wasnt there

Going to all those lengths when you could just walk under it (having done your due diligence) would be not just stupid, but would look irrational and retentively superstitious

There's another solution for you....why not interview the ladder with some key questions on whether it intends to fall on you the second you're under it, it's life motivations, try and find it's underlying objectives for existence, how it actually ended up in your path, etcetcetc. Make sure you do not take a second to walk under it until you get these key questions answered before moving on with your life.
