I think it's sad when someone dies.

You may not believe in her policies but at least you always knew what they were. Unlike some of our more recent leaders who promise the earth and deliver nothing. False and smarmy. You knew what she stood for and so you had the choice to vote for or against. But you knew what you were getting. She was true to her word and her principals. Sure she got things wrong, who hasn't and hindsight is a wonderful thing. Whether you think her policies were right or wrong she had the country's interests at heart not her own.
I'm fairly certain that were she in power today we wouldn't be trotting backwards and forwards to Brussels to see whether we can deport an illegal terrorist and threat to Britains security. He'd be gone.

I wouldn't say I particularly liked her. I didn't agree with everything she did, but I admired her . And it's not nice to rejoice when someone dies.

Im always interested to hear, from the people that despise her so much, how they would of dealt with the unprofitable and declining industries that she tried to deal with. Or how the country would of been better under the policies of Labour of James Callaghan's in '79 - or Michael Foot in '83 - or Neil Kinnock in '87. But I never do.

Im not saying I agree with what she did - but she did something, she did something that she thought would be for the greater good of the country. Yet none of her haters ever paint a picture of how the others would of done better - because, I fear, none of them really know. All they know is Thatchers policies didnt work for the best of some, and so compare her to Hitler. The one thing I truly don't get - if she was so vile and evil, and destroyed this Country single handedly - how was she able to win 3 general elections on the trot, and be in power for 11 years......?

To quote Vlad - "Haters gotta hate".......

The counrty would most likely be worse. We've had too many wishy-washy spineless grinning incompetent buffoons that have made a hash of things since.

Wow I just had our 'cfa ethics in economics' lecturer go on and on about her today....and he was pretty neutral as well. Thanks to zurich-allan's post about her earlier...he asked us whats the famous quote she's known for and I recalled it immediately. :hehe:

Roger Waters hated Thatcher. The Wall is an expression of that distaste for the Tory policies of the day. The next album was too, since it was made up of songs written for The Wallbut not put on it due to space reasons.

I think people comparing her to Hitler is pretty disgusting in regards to the war crimes

Tbh i think she did what needed to be done

I can understand people hating her if they are directly effected, what I dislike is hippie students jumping on the bandwagon (i hate hippie hypocrisy) and those with no reason

People need someone to blame and it is fashionable to hate her

Personally I believe she did what needed doing

She wasn't scared to take on the far too powerfull Unions who were, and still are, nothing more than a bunch of troublemakers.

Unions can be good but can hold a country to ransom duckling up finances when the job naturally is non profitable
