At least with Schumacher, the other driver got a look in and was repaid for their sacrificies. Massa gets nothing like that these days whilst Alonso is on the go.

Rest assured, if Felipe got himself to a dominant position in the championship later in the season, just like Schumacher, Nando would be told to move over and let him past. :)

There's more chance of me supporting Ferrari again than that ever happening!

And just to double up, LdM has more to say:

ESPNF1:
Luca di Montezemolo says he sees Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton as "perfect for Ferrari in the future" and would pick Vettel of the two to replace Fernando Alonso.

Vettel has long been linked with a move to Ferrari in 2014, but having himself categorically stated that he has no agreement to join the team Vettel was also rejected as an option by Montezemolo while Alonso is still at the team. However, looking to the future when Alonso may no longer drive for Ferrari, Montezemolo said that both Vettel and Hamilton were prime candidates to replace him and explained why he would go for Vettel in a straight choice between the two.

"Between all the drivers, Vettel and Hamilton could be perfect for Ferrari in the future, with one difference - Vettel is younger," Montezemolo was quoted by the BBC. "First of all, of all the drivers, we have the best - in terms of speed, intelligence in the race, and a capability to work with the team.

"When you have the best driver you have to put him in the best condition to succeed, to win and have a good environment without peer troubles. But if Alonso decided to go to live in Hawaii with the girlfriend, I have no doubt that for human and professional reasons [I would choose] Vettel. He would be very good for us.

"I like Vettel, because he is not presumptuous. He wants to win but he is not arrogant. Michael [Schumacher] told me many years ago that coming from karts, Vettel had the most potential of any young driver and he was right."

Capability of working with a team, that's where Hamilton loses out to Vettel.

Thats where Hamilton loses out to Massa...let alone Vettel.

How else can you explain LdM idea that they have the best drivers available or did he miss Lewis leaving McLaren this year?

Haha Massa over Hamilton, I've heard it all. Luca opens his mouth for political reasons, Just before Perez was announced at McLaren Luca says Perez isn't ready for a top team. Coincidence? He often says things jut to play with he minds of drivers, infact I recall him not wanting Alonso back in 06!

He also seemed to explain why Hulkenburg went to Sauber by saying "Im interested to see how he goes in a Ferrari engine" - think a good season for him could push him to Ferrari in 2014 but that also depends on Massa's performance.

On Perez, I think LDM's comments on him have some truth, since after he signed for McLaren he scored 0 points in the last 6 races and crashed out of most of those 6.

To be clearer I meant in the mind of Luca.

Surely if Ferrari wanted the best drivers available they would have snapped up Lewis as soon as he wanted to depart McLaren. We all know that was never going to happen BUT it makes a mockery of the statement we have the best 2 drivers available.

Lewis never said he wanted to depart from McLaren. He was just not committing, until he made the Merc annoucement. I think a vast majority predicted him to simply stick with McLaren, so it wasn't like "Lewis is looking out elsewhere, let's try for him" situation.

Hmm I wonder what Lewis' view would have been had an offer from Maranello been forthcoming. Obviously there must have been some feeling in the paddock he could be lured away from McLaren otherwise Merc would never have come calling in the first place.
