Looks like the people who made the prank call have been fired.

They haven't, they stood down on their own account but who knows if they will go back on air.

I heard 2 news stories this morning, one saying that they broke some laws about it. The other one said they had not broken any laws.

Yes they jumped, but the station is looking after them as now the two DJ's are not in a good state due to the backlash.
What law did they break? I dont see what law they could have broken.

I imagine attempting to impersonate the head of state is illegal in many parts of the world (either directly or covered by some other law).

I have since heard there was question regarding airing a prank call without the persons permission. Which is required in Australia, but is not required if that persons from over seas.

The person being pranked is from overseas so what's the problem?

From what I've heard and read it was suicide. It seems odd if the prank call was the cause of it. The lady in question answered the phone but isn't the lady who divulged the information about Kate. Either this lady was very depressed or had other mental problems and this was the last straw, or the suicide and prank call were just coincidental. She had a family. Suicide seems a massive over reaction to the event.

Could have been all that was needed if she was already of that mindset. I'd imagine that anyone involved in this (except the blue bloods of course) will be under quite a bit of stress given the high profile nature of it all. Stress affects people in different ways so maybe the she couldn't cope with the attention? It's all guess work and we'll never know the true reasons why. Who knows??

In Australia it is illegal to record a conversation without all parties being aware of the recording. The two DJ's could face prosecution over this.

Only if the call was made within Australia, which it wasn't. So was legal. This isn't the first prank call in history is it?

No it's not the first prank call,no one's claiming it is, and I'm sure those two Dj's never meant for such a disaster to come of it, and I'm not convinced the outcome is down to them. But that said, on the BBC tonight, they did say that it's illegal in Australia to record telephone conversations without all persons being aware. I Don't know If that's correct,but would think the BBC have researched before broadcasting those facts.
