The French GP is one of the oldest races (first held in 1906) and deserves to be on the calander over tracks like Valencia, Bahrain and Istanbul.

I think it's not that the French GP would displace Spa every other year - Spa has been struggling financially for a while now and hinted at such a solution before, so this would actually help Spa to continue holding GPs in the long-term.

I think that every track struggles financially, Bernie's hosting fees are so extortionate that ticket prices rise and rise, which prices many fans out... Besides F1 in Europe is dead don't you know?

It seems like I've read the hosting fees before but I forget what they are. It was something like €696 billion and 72 virgins, I think. Now, looking at ticket prices for Australia 2012, £225.77 looks to be an entry rate for a weekend pass for grandstand seating or £72.83 to sit on the grass on Sunday. I live in a county in Ohio (US) wherein the median annual household income is $30,661, which translates to £19,552.95. I know folks around here that won't mind paying $60 (£38.26) to go to a NASCAR Sprint Cup race, but if they had to shell out six times that (or more) for a race there's no way they would do it. Granted, I only know of a handful of people in my county that likes F1 in the first place, but the point is that a lot more people can afford $60 (£38.26) for a grandstand seat at a NASCAR race than there are people who can drop several hundred for a seat. It's a shame pricing couldn't get to where more people could realistically swing it.

Like myownalias, I have not felt the loss of the French GP so much since the last race was held at Magny-Cours. The track never produced the best of races, so I hope the French GP, if re-instated, goes elsewhere, like Paul Ricard (as has been mentioned).
:

I don't really think Paul Ricard would be much better than Magny Cours, both seem lackluster to me, with watching old MotoGp races at Paul Ricard, the track did look a bit plain and boring, but I think there is a number of track layouts they can use at PR so maybe it won't be the same layout that I watch for the bikes if F1 went to Paul Ricard.

We are working on the idea of hosting a Grand Prix every other year at Le Castellet. This idea was agreed by the Formula 1 authorities. It is not up to me to set a date for a Grand Prix. - French Prime Minister Francois Fillon

If anyone is familiar with Circuit Paul Ricard, what's your take on it for an F1 race?

Cheers

What happens in the french GP ,everyone holds up a white flag and surrenders and let McLaren come through and win :wink:

I'll drink to that! :drink::P

Nah, Merc would win but by the same method. :hehe:

Think about it.........

It work for maybe a few years but then Marussia would come in and **** and pillage their way to victory while the British teams sit back and enjoy the show.

Why not in France?

The first French GP was held in 1906. Thereafter they hosted a race for in every season until 2008. I'd say they had a right to a race on that basis.

Really, it should be Hungary's race constantly under threat/being named as an alternate here. Not to derail this thread but how the hell has that race stayed so solidly on the calendar for so long? It's not like they have loads of money to throw at CVC (or do they?), or a decent 'motorsport related' reason...

On topic, i definitely think France should have a race and i DO like Paul Ricard, but i don't like one major aspect of that track in that it really is basically a huge expanse of tarmac with lines painted on to denote the track these days. Much prefer M-C...

Great, lets sacrifice the greatest track on the calendar every alternate year so we can give Grosjean a home race.
