Same car with the ideal setup for that person... Thats a fun game. Here is my first crack at it, but looking at my fantasy F1 scores you know I am not very good at this sort of thing. LOL.

Vettel
Hamilton
Alonso
Kobayashi
Button
Petrov
Schumacher
Massa
Webber
DiResta
Rosberg
Heidfeld
Trulli
Sutil
Perez
Ricciardo
Kovaleinen
Algesuari
Buemi
Maldonado
Barrichello
... the rest

Yeah I agree, there is nothing wrong with Jenson as a driver, he is one of the best guys out there and he has the chance to prove that from time to time. He has suffered from a run of bad luck the last two races, I don't know whether that is motivation for this thread or not, but I can't see how it could or would be.
#267513
Maybe he just has very good luck and very bad luck... How many times has he pitted at the right moment in a wet/dry race? very good luck

then things like no wheel nut/hydralic failure/not removing radiator bung is just unlucky

I think any true Mclaren fan would respect the decisions that the team has made. That includes the driver lineup. It seems to me like they are very happy with Button as I recall Whitmarsh saying that he would keep him as long as he wanted to stay. I don't think that he could ever be considered a bad driver in any sense compared to any driver. Luck has nothing to do with it, it's just part of racing.

Their is Lewis-Alonso League.

Then their is Vettel League.

Then comes-Mark Webber-Kubica-Kobayashi(in the right car he would beat Jenson)

Then comes Nico-Jenson.

Yes Jenson has won a WDC and no one can take that away from him but that car was exceptional the first half of the season.

Once the other cars caught up Jenson started to drive his normal self.

Thinking about it, Jenson's more of a perfectionist "in the zone style driver", when he's on it, like he was with that Brawn, or in Canada 2010, or in Brazil 2009, he's unstoppable.

The other side of that, is when the cars a bit off, he hates it, sometimes he really struggles. Although most of the time he's good enough to be very average.

He isn't a poor driver.

Might have helped Jensons image if you didn't post this...he's had some pretty rubbish drivers as partners before his Brawn days. JV wasn't exactly one of the great WDCs either, Frank Williams himself said something like "making a pigs meal of winning the WDC in a dominant car"? And the JV in the BAR days was a joke...whenever I see a white car spinning I'd know its good ol' JV.

The motivation for this thread was a combination of seeing alot of people hating jenson, whenever lewis is mentioned on a variety of forums and also his recent run of bad luck. So I wanted to see the general consensus of my favourite driver.

I think there is luck in f1. I agree Jenson was carried by his car in his WDC win. But also Vettel would never have won his WDC without petrov, hundreds of hours of racing and it came down to a few positions, I'd say thats bad luck on alonsos part, or he just cracked?

Anyway... I'd consider bad luck in f1 as a situation that you had no control over that didn't affect your teammate. A poorly fitted tyre and a hydraulics problem I would consider bad luck, since Lewis has had little problems with his car.

Yes, Jenson had no control over the retirements in both Silverstone and Nurburgring. That is bad-luck. He's lost some good points there. :irked:

To be blunt, I think of Button as a bit of a journeyman. Let's face it, his championship was lucky. MrM gifted Brawn and a couple other teams a nice double diffuser and banned those of other teams. By the time the other DD's were legal Button had a huge lead.

Sure Button has had some bad luck but I think he average as far as F1 drivers go.
