Yeah... and now he isn't through no fault of his own.

But.... We'll see how he goes. He is driving very well, but it's going to be tough for him to defend his championship now, and that is a massive understatement.

I'm not sure who has compared Vettel with Alonso, but there is no way that I would do that. Massa has been underperforming for some time. The same logic that people have used with Vettel applies to Alonso. If Webber is a pushover as some have labelled him, then Massa... well words cannot express.

I think Webber is a much more respected driver, does win races and performs well as a 2nd driver for Red Bull.

Alonso is the best driver there... But I cannot compare him against Massa. What he has done this year however, is fantastic and amiable. The car has improved with Alonso's leadership. We cannot rule whether the car is still such a dog anymore because you can't judge when he has such an incompetent team mate. Hopefully that will improve with Kovaleinen as his team mate...

Yet Vettel was 2nd in the championship through consistent high points finishes in sluggish car....

His second place in Spa was a gift. The best he would have done would be fourth, more likely worse. But he's had points lost too, so I don't even bother with what ifs since luck averages out in the end.

But what I want to reply to you about is; did you see the points for second through fifth? That's hardly a difference. As someone corrected me, he's won one race to Webber's two and The Red Bull has not been the rocket Seb's been accustomed to have under him but it's not by any mean the dog of a car you're saying. Like the Ferrari it's ever better in race trim.

It's been nice seeing him struggle this year, coming back to reality and it's been good seeing him fight and actually make some good moves instead of driving up front for fifty laps. But to claim that his driving is outstanding compared to others is a bit fanatical.

In the words of Fernando Alonso,
"Hamilton is the only one who is capable of winning without having the best car, which is evident as the others only win when they have a good car."
I think with this he's also implying that He's the "other" driver that can do that.

He also did say this:
Asked which of his title rivals he feared most, Alonso joked: "If I had to choose between Hamilton or Vettel, I would choose Räikkonen."

So maybe he was just in a joking mood.

Boy Vettel got as much as he could out of that piece of crap car today.

I agree it's nor the car he's been used to in the past..... But come on, he topped all FPs didn't he, and then was right up there in Q1 and Q2.

It's no HRT....

Boy Vettel cracked under pressure today. :wavey:

Yep. Clear as day in the darkness of Singapore. :D You don't blitz Q1 and Q2 and then fall off completely in Q3, the pressure got to him big time...I think he didn't expect Lewis to match him in Q1 and Q2.

He's a double world champion - he ain't going to choke. Alonso was well out of it so who's there to be worried about?

The alternator didn't prevent them from getting pole today though. Believe me, I was as shocked as anyone that Lewis put in the lap he did. The consensus all weekend that Red Bull would be the team to beat. Race day is tomorrow though, strange things happen in F1. I'll start breathing after lap one.

My bet is they were looking at race pace in Q3.

So it WASN'T his piece of crap of a car then, it was strategy?

Not likely...vlad and yourself need to stop kidding yourselves about that.

Red Bull

Sebastian Vettel - 3rd
"It's hard to say what happened. I was happy until the end of Q2, but then in Q3 we weren't able to go with the track and improve. In Q3 I couldn't feel the grip so well and convert it to the lap time. The most important day is tomorrow and we have got pace in the car. We have been competitive this weekend and our target is to have a good race tomorrow; P3 is still a good place to start from."

We all know drivers are too happy to say they're more ready for the race whenever they don't qualify on the front row but this is not the case. I still think Vettel will pressure Lewis tomorrow if he gets past Crashtor before the 2nd lap.

My guess is as good as yours. I sincerely doubt he'd choke though. Car's not that great, tyres, traffic - who knows?

Either way, Hamilton will crash into Maldo and Vettel will cruise to a glorious win. :cloud9:
