I wonder how this will affect prize-money distribution next season. Also, is this talk of a medal scoring system just a metaphor or will the drivers and teams actually be given medals on the podium?

The man just doesn't know what he's talking about. The problem is the drivers, my bottom it is.
Clearly Massa never pushed for a win in Hungary, and clearly Alonso never pushed for the win in Fuji, and clearly Lewis never pushed for the win in Germany. Bernie doesn't seem to understand that in 2008, it was the greatest year of all time. So why, does the points system thats proved successful in every single category of motor racing, need changed.

I say definite protest. This is a public sport. The entire sport hinges on us, the viewers, so if he goes against our views, something seriously needs done.

I don't understand what your saying there?

Massa did a great move on Hamilton in Hungary

Alonso Won in Fuji and Lewis did two fantastic over takes in Germany for the win?

Your right about the last point tho it isn't broke so it don't need fixing

I think it was sarcasm more than a serious agreement with Ecclescake

If Bernie goes to the metal system, I would love to see one driver win nine races in a row, starting with the Australian GP.

I'm saying Bernie is talking crap. He's saying drivers aren't pushing for wins, so theres no overtaking, when clearly there is 3 examples of a driver going all out for a win. We don't need change, the only change needed is the management of F1

I can't believe he is actually going through with this. It's come to the point where I genuinely want to punch him, so he knows how STUPID HE IS. I reckon they should let the public have there say, to some extent. We obviously know what's better for the sport than he does anyway.

Why not go back to the old point system where it was worth pushing for the win
#82626
I like the suggestions of a point for a pole position and a point for a fast lap accompanied with the same points system. Imagining the drivers going all out for a fast lap at the end of the race. We can all dream can't we...

Because that still takes away some of the incentive for the lower-placed teams to push, and also takes away two opportunities for them to score. Personally, I'd like to see the points system look more like, say:

15
12
9
7
6
5
4
3
2
1

That way, the top ten score. Of course, going like this:

11
8
6
5
4
3
2
1

Would also work much better and would probably be, with the current twenty-car grid at least, the best option.

Can you imagine if that did happen though? That would render half the season worthless. then he'd be back to points as quick as a flash when nobody watches the seond half of the year.

In a way that's the best outcome for all of us, because I'm not going to watch F1 if this medal nonsense comes in to play.

Not sure if this was discussed. Bernie wants driver to go for it. Well don't restrict them. An engine has to last 2 races and a gear box 4 (i believe next season) of course a driver is going to conserve his equipment with rules as they are.
Bernie wants to see them race well let the drivers have a fresh engine for every race this way no one has to conserve their equpment and coast to the end. He want it more competitive, don't keep changing the rules. Because the rich team can adjust quicker than the poor ones. Keep the things the same for a long time and the poor team will get there.
