Gary Anderson on the close chasing pack and how vital upgrades will be as to who emerges highest.

I read somewhere that McLaren have a really big upgrade coming this weekend which they are very confident about.

Still, I can't see anyone getting close to Mercedes.

No, I can't, I meant closest out of the chasing pack. Based on the first four races it goes
Merc
Big gap
Ferrari
Small gap
red Bull
Gap
Chasing pack

Expecting great things from Seb this weekend now his chassis's been 'fixed'. Lots of poor luck with chassis, always cropping up like that when he's getting a shellacking. Wonder how long before it end up on Ricciardo's car.

Transmission, ERS, Chassis problems, you name them. They seem to only pop up when being overtaken by Ricciardo. I expect great things from Vettel as well now that his car is sorted.

Is the big gap Mercedes has over the rest of the field going to get bigger here?
..... and .....
When should Mercedes stop developing this years car and turn their focus to 2015?

Good point, especially the second one but 2015 might pass like this year,or maybe Red Bull will try to go back to the glorious days and compete with them, perhaps even beat them(i'm afraid)

I have to say, Spanky, I can't see that gap getting smaller. I think it will increase on flowing tracks like Spain, Spa, Suzuka and so on. The gap may appear far less on the one-off point-'n-squirt tracks like Monaco but that's about it. And of course there are the tracks that the drivers would win on a donkey with the driver facing the wrong way…like Lewis at Hungary, Canada, Texas and Abu Dhabi. You can't really read much into those.

So while McLaren, Red Bull and Ferrari have been piping the same message into the speaker system: Mercedes can be caught, Mercedes AMG have kept the chatter to a minimum. I will say, from what little we have heard, they, Mercedes AMG have plenty of time in that car and they intend to give that horse more whip to increase the advantage. Toto Wolff was very careful with his words recently but I got the message loud and clear…they want to stamp their authority on this Championship very early…in my view, almost forcing a lot of teams to turn their hopes and dreams to the 2015 cars early. I suppose if this plays out, the WDC will also wrap early and they can increase their efforts/manpower around the W06. One can only hope, right?

Whoop whoop :D:D:D . I'd add that Merc have said they're after a PERIOD OF DOMINANCE, not just a championship. With that in mind I'd think they very much have an eye on next year.
I'm also not convinced they've let rip on this engine yet. But we don't know. Exciting times eh :P

Good assessments 2nd and RC.

About the only time I think we have seen the W06 cut completely loose was those last 10 or so laps after the SC in Bahrain (ducks and runs for cover).

Ferrari and Red Bull both turned this sort of lead into years of dominance. So I'm sure Mercedes is targeting the same.

Hope my team can ruin that sooner rather than later :)
