I don't know how I feel about the Ferrari vigil; part of me respects them for doing something for one of their most famous drives, put the other part sees them telling the tifosi to wear red and bring flags is almost a PR cash-in, he drove for other teams too; but I couldn't imagine anyone turning up in Jordan or Benneton gear after Ferrari said that. I dunno, it's nice but it just leaves a sour after-taste.

Not sure how you think that Ferrari is going to cash in??
Schumi is part of the Italian marque and the Italian marque is part of Italy,
a country and a people steeped in the tradition of family. Schumi is part of
that family, albeit an "adopted" son. When a family member is ill, Italians
tend to gather. When a family member celebrates a birthday, Italians tend
to gather. In Schumi's case, it was a "double whammy", so Italians gathered.

p.s. Does anyone still have any Jordan or Benneton gear? Because if they'd
shown up wearing it, I'm sure they'd have been more than welcome!! What's
important is that Schumi was the centre of that vigil.

I'd respect anyone there to support Schumi, dressed in any team garb. And I'm very proud to see the Tifosi there showing their support for one of their family.

The text underneath says

According to former driver Philippe Streiff, friend of Michael Schumacher this CHU Grenoble, the prognosis of former Formula 1 champion is no longer engaged. Remarks that he would have made Professor Gérard Saillant.

Not sure what engaged means?

In spite of having studying French up until high school, I wasn't sure about the meaning within that context
(high school was a looong time ago!!).

Then I found that link below and it would seem that Streiff meant that Schumi's injuries are no longer life-threatening??
Hope that's right!!

No I get that Italian family thing but it's the "Bring Ferrari logos and flags", it does go to boosting PR; if they had just said "We're hosting a silent vigil outside, all are welcome" that's fine but they invited the Tifosi to wave flags around, just seems a bit odd.

unnecessary derogatory term removed

But it is not Ferrari instigating the vigil. So it is the fans boosting the PR. No different to 50 Man United fans saying let's all go to this pub to watch the match with our Man U shirts on

Funny thing is I would say those qualities you talk of are not only apparent in Italians alone.

Well said Bud, I certainly have seen those positive family traits practiced in many places and by many people around the world. In reading Sagi's post, she certainly didn't say or imply IMO that it was uniquely Italian, just that it is a value that most Italians would believe in and aspire to uphold.

A message from Micheal's family posted on his official website....

Message fro Michael's family

We are overwhelmed!

The incredible sympathies shown today by the Ferrari Fans outside the hospital has utterly overwhelmed us and moved us all to tears. We are deeply grateful for it and also for all the heartwarming and heartfelt wishes for Michael to get well soon, which have reached us from all over the world.

What could you possibly find fault with the "bring Ferrari logos and flags" if that's the team he achieved the most success with in F1?
Was the invitation to Ferrari fans "only"? Was it exclusive of anyone "not" Ferrari? Or was it "especially" to Ferrari fans as a way to show respect for the driver who was part of the most successful team in F1?
Another thing to consider is that Ferrari didn't want to put "pressure" on other teams' supporters to participate. It would be like wanting your family to show up for a celebration; but, not "expecting" your friends to be there, too.

p.s. Out of respect for Schumi and Ferrari, I did a little editing of your post.

Not at all!! I am most familiar with the Italian culture / traditions, so that's what I spoke to.
That's not to say that other cultures don't honour the same traditions, I just don't want to be
presumptive, that's all!

My apologies if that's how it came across!!
