I don't think the big issue was whether he understood it, it was that, post 2009, he wasn't capable of scoring points consistently and at a level the team needed.

But in choosing Raikkonen there has clearly been a shift in the unwritten policy for the next couple of years at least. IMO Ferrari are now definitely aiming for the WCC and as long as the 2014 car is competitive, I have a feeling that they will get it too.

But Raikkonen and Alonso in the same team with equal status will make one of them winning the WDC more difficult IF Red Bull and Mercedes (and not forgetting McLaren) come up with competitive cars themselves. Having said that, if a situation does arise later in the season where either Kimi or Alonso have to make way for the other to improve the chances of WDC, how prepared one or the other will be to comply.

Can't say that I agree that Massa was in an "awkward" position, considering Ferrari chose to let go their last WDC to keep him alongside Alonso!
In fact, Ferrari paid mega money to keep him there!! Yes, I know it was about being humane and showing loyalty and giving support!! I think
it's commendable and unique in a professional sport!! Also, I would wager there aren't many teams who would have done that.

If there were any awkwardness, it would definitely have set in at Ferrari when both sides sat down at each consecutive contract negotiation!!

As for "winning", it's pretty obvious that in re-signing Kimi, Ferrari has declared that the WCC is their ONLY objective for 2014!! The TEAM is
NOT prepared to cater to one or the other of their two drivers, as they are a means to an end, at this point. There is a lot of pride at stake
and I'm fairly certain if the time comes that there is any doubt in the mind of either Kimi or Alonso, there will some ear-tweaking going on!!

Cone now Sagi. Ferrari did what Ferrari did because Massa had trounced Kimi for two years and the guy was driving in a lackluster was to say the least. So sending him packing and eating the last year of his contract made sense at the time.

So Ferrari in rehiring Kimi is in a situation where they say they made a mistake with him or they made a mistake with Massa. Or the likely 3rd option... Pretend it never happened and like some of our forum members here, never admit to being wrong.

Massa hadn't "trounced" Kimi, they were fairly even in performance, even if more was expected of Kimi!!
I can't pretend to offer an opinion on who drove better, so I have to go with points scored and they were
pretty much on the same page... again, I must admit, I expected more from Kimi!!

I'm not sure that Ferrari is "admitting" to making a mistake, per se, so much as they're darned serious about
the WCC next year... after all, they have arguably the best driver on the grid, who was close to securing a
third title; yet, the team was no where near the WCC!! Time to walk the talk.

A simple one word answer "YES"

If Massa cared he would have moved to Europe to be closer to the team

And yes you need to be a regular at the team's base of operation in order to get 1000% team support

Remember it is also those at the fcatiry who don't go to the races that matter also

I wouldn't agree with that as he has had some "spirted" drives this year and I really believe that a "regular" paycheck that
is on time along with his "ole buddies " at Ferrari he will do the job as hired which is to bring back the Manufactures Championship back home to Ferrari

Plus the quality of the "vino" at the Ferrari cantina will be of much higher quality than found at the Lotus cantina

I can't wait for that "Group Hug" with Luca!!!!!
