They could regulate the air off the back of the car into clean straight air if they wanted. What are their goals? Ultimately increasing revenue. You do that by increasing viewership. You do that by, presumably, causing more passes to occur. There's no way that can ever be anything but artificial. We as viewers may decry the artificialness of the passing, but according to Bernie's experts, the greater number of casual viewers don't care. According to them, this more passing thing(however they get it) succeeds at increasing viewership, So no matter how we purists bash it, it's working for them.
To the teams, well I doubt they care much about pure racing either. They are businesses whos goal is to win the race. They play to the regs and they just want wins no matter how they do it, be it "artificial" things like DRS or KERS or what have you, or driver tactics like blocking for your teammate or parking at Racasse or taking your penalty stop at the end of the last lap.

No rain according to early forecasts. Must mean it's 100% definitely going to rain then. :hehe:

ARGH CAN'T WAIT. One week from now we'll know who's on pole and which cars are quick, and i'll be like a child before christmas (just like every season!). :D

I'm trying to convince my wife to stay up and watch it with me... not working so far. Perhaps it's time to up the ante and offer a prolonged foot rub.

Here's the BBC's offering to us lot they've stiffed.

Linky-do-dah

I wish there was something I could say as a consolation, I really do. You at least thought BBC would of wanted the opening race.

They probably did,but wasn't allowed.Unless they looked at viewing figures and see far more people watch the 1pm start races.

But for those of us with a choice, will watch sky for Melbourne, as its live. And if there coverage is any good (and from what I've seen so far, it will be), there is little chance we will go back to BBC.

I just think they would of fought harder to keep us.

Why I think that, I've no idea.

Personally I don't buy into the "dirty air" argument. You think the wake of a racing car is something new? For me its laughable. If you don't want dirty air, be in front - what's wrong with that for an idea. What's wrong with giving the guy who has worked his way to the front an actual reward for being in front?

When people start arguing that getting to within a second of the car ahead is "work done" for a driver, well, I personally don't think that's racing. For me, passing should be dam hard, you should have to work through difficulties to get in front, because getting ahead is a big prize - not something to be given.

And to all the supporters of DRS, be honest, do you find a DRS pass anything but boring vanilla flavoured mush. People don't rave about great "DRS" passing moves.

But you have to think about all of the times where the driver behind took a second-a-lap out of the car in front, only to just sit behind it and not be able to pass because of the dirty air. That's also unfair. A guy works hard to catch the car in front only he can't pass because because of the dirty air and is forced to stay behind him. That's not only unfair, it's also just plain boring.

Bernie wants money and to get money, he needs viewership. It's a simple fact - more people will watch a race if it's more exciting. DRS and KERS makes F1 more exciting for the casual fans and brings new fans to the sport.

It's also more exciting for some die-hard aficionados, such as myself. I'm in support of DRS. :)

Dirty air affects modern F1 cars more then in the past because of the reliance on aero for performance, listen to your teams big boss for his take on aero!

End of the day you can't deny dirty air causing difficulties in being able to pass even for a faster car. I mean what happened in the last race of 2010? :hehe:

And even given 2010, I still don't believe in DRS passes, nor do I believe Nando should have been gifted a pass in AD. Honestly, I want to see real, hard earned passes. I want to see the guy who gets in front rewarded not punished. Hard as it may be to believe, drivers can actually pass without DRS and from dirty air.

Ok seems we've gone off track here, we were talking about 2 DRS zones and it's turned into a debate about DRS instead. Overall I agree I'd rather not have it but my argument is about how having two negates its purpose as seen by geetfaces example from AD last year.
Only good thing about DRS is it gives a clearly faster car a way past so he can get on with his race instead of being stuck behind because of aero deficiencies.

Almost forgot my F1 menu, didn't do too well last year, think I only did maybe 5 or 6 races. I need to find some crocodile steaks before the weekend now.
