Jarno is happy :yikes:

Jarno Trulli has labelled his experience of the new Caterham at Jerez on Friday as the best first day of testing he can remember in his career.

The veteran Italian, who took over the car that has been driven by Heikki Kovalainen and Giedo van der Garde so far this week, believes the CT01 is a big step forward over last year's challenger despite ending running at the bottom of the timesheets.

"It was a very positive day," he said when asked by AUTOSPORT for his feelings. "I think I cannot remember any better first day testing, honestly, or first week of testing.

"We ran into very, very few troubles despite the fact that the car is totally revolutionary, and with quite a few new interesting systems on it like KERS.

"I am happy despite the times, which are not representative at all, especially for us, as we know we have been extremely conservative on the fuel side and if we make some calculations we are probably in the ballpark."

One of the most important aspects of his day was the fact that he felt instantly happy with the power steering - having struggled so much with the system on last year's Team Lotus car.

"The power steering felt straightaway much better," Trulli explained. "I had a good feeling from the car and I can report everything that I couldn't feel last year at all, so it is good to have the feeling back again. I could point out a lot of stuff today.

"It has been almost a year that I didn't have this feeling, which is nice. There are still some details to sort out on this matter but it is very good. It shouldn't be a problem to be honest."

Why do they only let one car test at a time?

Why do they only let one car test at a time?

Because Max Mosley is a bad man.

Cost cutting and trying to even up the financial gap between the teams I'd guess.

Yeah Karma, Spanky being a smart bottom about testing first teams fans to pop up with the exact words of his...Ferrari fan. Truly was uncanny

But yeah Alonso quickest with 39 laps not a long stint in sight. Even Redbull did more laps and were missing half the day with problems. Seems Ferrari are show boating already usually teams in need of a sponsor do this :P

This is what Gary Anderson has to say about this week's testing form.

"On the final day of the first test, some of the teams had a bit of a shot, not wanting to leave without seeing what their car could do. On balance, it looks like the order at the top has not changed, with Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari. But Lotus and Toro Rosso are both doing a good job and it looks like the midfield teams have closed up on the big three a little."

Yep, Lotus have been making headlines, but Toro Rosso haven't looked too shabby either.

Seriously, though, I think it's more like the top teams fell back a little to the midfield rather than the midfield making huge leaps to the frontrunners.

I don't think it's even that, it's way to hard to tell where everyone is especially after the first test week.

I can't find much basis to judge any of the teams except from what the drivers say. Out of all drivers, everyone gave pretty sub standard answers except for Massa who was unusually negative, especially at this early stage. But Alonso seems to be a bit chirpier. Makes you wonder, Massa isn't going to be winning many fans in that camp with his negativity.
