McLaren should just go and start work on next years car mind you with the amount of rule changes is there any point.

Why? Button seemd to do ok.

Obviously a result of Whitmarsh's favouritism.

lol, 10th must be Lewis's payback for talking to Horner.

Because he was Infront of the Red Bulls anyway

Of course I read before I typed! Comments saying that a team should give up before even half of the season is past annoy the crap out of me. The season is long and none of us know what will heppen. Strange things have happened in the past and strange things will happen again.

What do you mean that Button was ahead of the Red Bulls anyway? Watching Hamiltons on-board footage he just didn't seem to hook up the lap. Possible lack of confidence in the car according to David Coulthard on BBC1. Simple as that, but the car is not a million miles away. I find it quite funny as it seems McLaren were one of the teams who were keen on the rule changes for this weekend, bet he's wishing he had kept quiet.

Still a red Bull 1-2 is a good result for me at least.

Your comment had nothing to do with what he said, hes saying Mclaren are even further back, they are clearly not going to catch up, so focus on next year.

You said some snidey crap about Button being able to manage, when he only got fifth, BEHIND the driver thats 75 points + ahead, so button DIDNT manage ok.

The rule change wasn't exactly applied to each team equally(the 50% crap)....

What's wrong in saying that mclaren should just focus on next year's car anyway? They're obviously out of the running, red bull has very dominant car, vettel has a big lead, and we're pretty much in the halfway point of the season....

looks like the rule change has hurt mclaren quite badly, but the race is tomorrow i spose, but why was lewis sent out on a used set of softs?, why not just put a brand spanking new set on and do one run?, but even button was 1.5 seconds slower, and the ferrari is now only a tenth off, i certainly not saying ferrari have been favoured, but having a rule change and all this public rowing is not on.

Exactly and like I said it is game over unless Vettel parks up for most of the season.

How is the dirty side at the start here? Ferrari normally have great starts, that means Alonso might out jump Vettel at the start. Massa might also take Vettel, if his start is anything like in his previous race. If we then get Webber, Alonso, Massa and then Vettel it should be an interesting race. Well im sure it will be an interesting race anyway, as its seems like Ferrari have fixed its issued with the hard tyres.

Interesting point raised by David Coulthard on BBC1. The way things stand, tomorrows result could be challenged by a team that feels they have been disadvantaged by the last minute rule changes.

These rule changes have been very messy and nothing short of a total shambles.

Your comment had nothing ......

Yes it did. The season has a long way to go. This is on a par with Briatore claiming that Ferrari should start on their 2012 car after the 1st race!

It is a fact that Button has managed to get a better result than Hamilton, nothing snidey at all, just a statement of fact. I think McLaren being damaged by the rule changes are maybe being slightly over emphasised. Not saying they have not but I think it is more to do with it being a last minute job. If you read what I wrote about Hamiltons fast lap it seemed that he just didn't hook up a good lap, either through lack of confidence in the car, poor set up or whatever. 5th is a lot better than 10th so yes it is ok. If Button gets a good start he'll probably split the Ferrari's. I would not rule out a podium for Button and I thin that Hamilton . If you look at what is ahead of Hamilton he should make up a few places pretty quickly.

It isn’t over yet and the fat lady hasn't even been given her music.

The rule change is a joke but it is what it is. The sooner it is sorted out, the better for everyone.

Comments about teams giving up on a car after one poor showing always seems to me a bit of a knee jerk reaction to me. Let’s see what happens in the race first and then what happens for he next race, as I believe that the rules will be slightly different again for the rest of the season. The rules for the British GP seem to be a compromise before the next race, where I think they return to the Valencia spec’.

Exactly and like I said it is game over unless Vettel parks up for most of the season.

I’m not so sure. The Red Bull race pace is not the fastest and they are not too hot on the tyre calls at times. Their advantage has certainly been reduced. I'm goning to be bold and predict that Red Bull will not win this race. Ferrari are probably the best positioned for a win.

By the sounds of it, it seems that there will be better clarity of the rules for the German and Hungarian GP so I wouldn’t get too depressed just now, until this shambles is cleared up.

Andrew, I think you're missing the point. This wasn't just "one bad showing" and this is not at all akin to abandoning a car after the first race. Vettel/RBR dominance has been a trend throughout this whole season, and changed very little today, and even their closest competitor was severely set back.

Anyway, I don't think they'll completely give up on 2011. Maybe they'll accept that they can't win, but the amount of money they get from F1 profits depends on how strongly hey finish, right? So they're still battling Ferrari and Mercedes for that. I'm sure they will start splitting their attention between this year's car and 2012 if they haven't already.

Most interesting qualifying in a while that. Stand out performers are Kobayashi and Di Resta. Big dis-appointers were Hamilton and Schumacher.

Ferraris stand a good chance of making up places at the start, and I think there was more pace in that Ferrari than the grid positions showed, lets see how their race pace and tyre management is. Redbull seem to be better on the tyres though, but Vettel's struggled this weekend, eh?

Hopefully it'll be a good race.

McLaren looked to be screwed with the restrictions on the overrun, I think they optimised their car for that far more than the other teams. It seems Ferrari barely used theirs anyway, but they're being suspiciously quite on this whole issue. Maybe Stefano just doesn't like political arguments and controversy, he seems like that sort of guy.

that might well happen, but I dont think he will take the start. It all depends on how the dirty side is. Must admit I hope he loses some places at the start, as it will make a more interesting race. He will for sure be able to overtake the guys at the front. Surely it is more fun even for the Vettel fans, if he comes from behind? How much fun is it when he leads from lap 1 to the end?
#264782
It's fun enough to me! ;)
Anyway, I think that tomorrow we won't have that much of a strict clean or dirty side. The rain washed it all out...

2011 WDC = Sebastian Vettel

Maybe someone should go on record and tell Mclaren to start working on their 2012 car...it seems the more they mess with this car with updates, the more backwards it goes. Rule change or not, its no excuse to go from where they were in Melbourne to being solid 3rd best in Valencia onwards.
