The question is about the Ferrari logo and color. The prancing horse is the well-known logo of Ferrari, along with the name Ferrari in its distinctive font. The first vehicle to carry the prancing horse was a WW1 biplane flown by ace pilot Francesco Baracca (pictured below):-

Enzo Ferrari, met the parents of the ace pilot after his death and it was after that meeting and the mothers suggestion, that Enzo decided to use it as a logo.

The question is, what was the first car to carry the logo and what is the official color of Ferrari and why?

Kubica is still going with that record, if just one victory counts!

Nah, i should have said it doesn't... i think there are several examples of that.

The question is, what was the first car to carry the logo and what is the official color of Ferrari and why?

I know part of that. The official colour is Yellow, to represent the colour of original town Ferrari were based in (not Maranello... Modena?).

Isn't the first car to carry the logo a trick (of sorts) ie it wasn't actually on a Ferrari?

I thought the yellow was just as an homage to the town, but the official color is Corsa Rosso because it was just the official national racing color, like green is to the UK and white with blue stripes was for the US like the Shelby Mustangs.

No clue about the first car though.

Pretty good post on this from Scotty. The official color is yellow, as that is the color of Enzo's town of Modena, to represent the gold that came from there. Ferrari races in red because that is the color allocated to Italy, in the early days teams carried the colors of their countries. Italy = red, British = green, France = blue, Germany = grey (silver). These colors still persist (somewhat).

So what about the other part of the question the first prancing horse car?

OK, a clue, Scotty was right, it wasn't a Ferrari that first carried the prancing horse for Enzo.

Ferrari Red is because that we the motorsport colour for Italy... Just as it was Green for the UK and silver for German.

There is a list of it somewhere. I think Japan was White

Good enough. To be specific, it was an Alfa Bimotore, driven by my absolute favourite driver to read about Tazio Nuvolari. The Bimotore wasn't really a success, but it showed Enzo's design strategy - power, power and more power. As the name suggests, it had 2 straight eights, one in front and one behind the driver. It was hugely thirsty and murdered tyres (yep, they had tyre problems in those days :) ).

Below are couple of pictures of the car with the prancing horse on the Bimotore. I love the heart shaped Alfa grill. There is also a video of the 1935 Pau GP with Tazio driving, but I'm pretty sure its an Alfa P3 he's in.

 1969, made of mallite, a wood-aluminum laminate

Do you notice the similarity with the current McLaren sidepods?
It's like fashion - nothing new...

Those sidepods don't have intakes on them! No wonder it was a failed attempt. :hehe:
