Upgrades:

In a recent article on Omnicourse.it It has been reported that Mercedes are on a full scale assault to combat the heavy rear tyre degradation issues.

Translation of the article:

Mercedes wants to fight the excessive degradation of the rear tires which so far has undermined the potential of the W04, very fast in qualifying, but slightly durable in the race. Aldo Costa, chief designer of the silver arrow, has taken a concept that was developed by Ferrari in 2004 in full Schumacher era, ie coating the titanium gearbox, and very narrow profile, with a second skin carbon which has the task of supporting the attacks of the suspensions.

GEARBOX WITH SECOND CARBON SKIN
Engineers Brackley have adopted this approach for having the opportunity to change the angles of the rear suspension without having to redo the merger of the the transmission case, but the main benefit that it provides is that it makes it possible to work on the rear of the car without having to replace the gearbox that needs to remain the same for five GP, otherwise you pay a penalty of five places on the starting grid. In fact it has emerged that this second structure could have decreases significantly the degradation of the tires.

MODIFIED REAR SUSPENSION
As mentioned previously for the Monaco Grand Prix Mercedes has brought a completely revised solution of the composite structure that should stiffen the rear, without affecting the gearbox. The leadership of the German House, in fact, have lobbied on the team because the excellent performance test, also consistent with identical returns in the race. Bob Bell has asked his men a big commitment that did not concern only the gearbox, but also the brake ducts that they must “draw” air in an area that is affected by the presence of hot gas exhaust (Coanda).

THE NEW BRAKE OUTLETS
For Monaco the team have introduced revised outlets for the rear brakes, whose function is to also act as flow diverters in order to extract the heat from the area of the rear wheels. The goal is to reduce the temperature by about 20 degrees around the rear. The does seem like a rather well planned, and thought out upgrade, let’s hope it works!

One hand is quite adequate for most scenarios.

Yeah for someone like you I guess it is. :)

You mean someone who can drive? I guess it does. Don't worry, you'll get there one day if you keep trying.

I found it funny how that poker face at the very start turned into a smile as soon as he started talking. :hehe:

Lewis knows Nico has the measure if this Merc better than he does at the moment... So yes, that's not gonna please him. I have a couple of theories as to why why that's the case, but never the less that's the case. Lewis has to dig deep. I don't think he resents Nico being up there...is pleased for him...while at the same time being pissed off with himself.
