this is going to be a blow to Merc and Lewis

Why? All teams can make revamps for aero, Merc and Lewis are looking at the new engine specs not aero.

On the contrary it's good for everyone that's currently not named Red Bull or McLaren. The longer the aero reqs stay unchanged the more time all teams have to develop their cars to a certain optimum. There's only a specific amount of speed available, and any remaining gains get smaller and smaller and more and more difficult to come by.

Unless there are some drastic rule changes again with the exhausts, the cars today will be very similar to the cars of 2014. So if that's the case in 2014 we may see the top 17 cars in Q2 be within a second of each other.

FIA adds 2013 European race slot
ESPN: The FIA has amended the 2013 calendar to open up a race slot "for another F1 European event" next season.

The German Grand Prix has been brought forward one week from its original date of July 14 to July 7 in order to allow the date of July 21 to be reserved. While reports had suggested that a one-off French Grand Prix would be held in 2013, it appears that the most likely addition will be the return of the Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park after the circuit came under new ownership.

The change was announced following the final 2012 meeting of the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) in Istanbul today, with the FIA stating: 'The date for the 2013 Grand Prix of Germany has been moved to 7 July, and 21 July has been reserved for another F1 European event, subject to the approval of the relevant ASNs.'

At the same time it was announced that the 'force majeure' allowance has been deleted from the 2013 Technical Regulations when a car stops on track in qualifying and that 'the FIA will determine how much fuel the car would have used to get back to the pits and add it to the one litre sample minimum.'

Teams will also face more stringent front wing deflection tests next season, while the team personnel curfew on a Thursday night has been extended from six to eight hours, but the number of times a team can break the curfew without penalty reduced from four to two.

I wonder where this Istanbul rumor comes from?

From scheduling and travel purposes wouldn't French grand prix come back be more likely. They got Renault and well a driver maybe but at least they could fill up the podiums with local, British, Spanish, German and Italian fans easily.

Istanbul back????? Fantastic!!! Filling those seats isn't a mega issue. I've said before they were full in the first year. They just need to improve the way it's marketed.

I was.

Actually I was even gonna open a thread about it but choose to wait till it is certain.Yesterday it was said the owner if the track and Bernie accepted on all terms but money.Today we got some bad news. The sports ministerial said they will not be paying any money(supposed to pay 13m$ ) since the track has been denationalized.I don't have good thoughts about the minister himself already. They don't know about the benefits the race would bring, and to be honest Turkey needs those benefits. and I need the race! Tomorrow everything will come clear, there's the FIA gala in Istanbul and the primary minister will be there. He is the one to give the final desicion.I hope he'll decide something right once, accepting the fee.
