The thing is RC that the more you have to lose the more of a gamble it would have been to come in and change in case of rain. With all the adversity and conspiracy he's had stacked against him, he's still 2nd in points, the Ferrari win was a fluke due to the weather, so just sit back and watch the season unfold. I don't believe McLaren is cutting their nose off when in the end, the only money earned is via your WCC rank, it just goes against all rationale any team would DO that.

But Button had already told Mclaren that if it rained the inters were shot. And he'd had an extra set to Leiws, Lewis' would have been in a worse condition. They were slow slicks. And surely seeing backmarkers going 5-10 seconds faster on slicks makes it a no brainer. I will sit and watch the season unfold and I honestly hope my concerns are unfounded.

I thought the same things, but sometimes you do what others around you are doings. I think McLaren AND Lewis felt that a sure 3rd place was better than anything the gamble would gain them since it was unlikely he'd catch up to Perez. had the gap between all three cars been 5 seconds, perhaps they would have gambled, but Lewis was 14~16 seconds back for the entire last 20 laps or so.

Lastly, once Vettel dropped off, there was no pressure from behind, assuring that podium even more.

What I think you've got to do is sit back and realise is Hamilton is sitting nicely, in second place of the championship.

Do you not remember that anxious feeling you'd get every race last year, when you didnt know what sort of daredevil move (which, dont get me wrong, I kinda enjoy too) he was going to make, and the fact he could crash out at any minute.

Even though I have always admired Hamilton for being a 'real' driver, and always going for the gap, it kinda shot my nerves last year, and Im glad for the rest that a conservative Hamilton / McLaren approach is allowing.

It could be worse, after all he could be crashing out because he doesnt have the skills to overtake a very slow backmarker....?

Are we done with Malaysia?

A must watch vid for Hamilton fans. Not just his achievements, but his reaction to low points as well.

Racechick you only see things from me perspective that's your problem. It seems unless Lewis gets pole fastest lap and wins anything but is a conspiracy against him. I think you need help!

There's probably a bit of that involved i grant you. He's my favourite driver etc etc . But take a look around other forums, its being discussed pretty widespread. Of course I like him to get pole and win...not bothered about fastest lap to be honest, but if he doesnt he doesnt, I just want fairplay and Im not sure what going on at the moment

Yes there are other fan boys who think he is also a god and deserves nothing but wins too. Him being beaten can only be because his team f***s him over.

Everything you say offends a team who prides themselves on existing to win. it's just utter bullpoo that they would not want to win for the sake of ruining one of their drivers, I mean take a step back and look what you're saying! It's just plain and simple bullpoo made up by stupid fan boys, who mind you have no idea about F1 or life in general in seems.

So only McLaren exist to win? Not Ferrari? Not Red Bull? Those teams duck one of their drivers. Frequently. But they still exist to win. The two things are not mutually exclusive. In fact the strategy has been quite successful over the years.
Anyway Im sorry if you think I offend McLaren because I ask questions about what is going on....Im not convinced anything is, but Im far from convinced that its not. So I'll continue to watch closely and ask questions while I make my mind up.

Hammer the vid looks cool! Havent had time to watch it all yet but I expecxt when i do it will remind me why I first became a Lewis fan :)

Ok guys, I know i get off on this so Im going to post something I found on another forum that sort of asks the questions I was asking but perhaps in a less emotional way. The person whose post im copying is responding to the question that mcLaren may have been being conservative because they were expecting a downpour......

"I did consider that, but unless there was a sudden massive downpour within a few laps those on slicks would easily have made up the time loss of the pitstop and gained time depending on how long it was until it rained. The pitstop time loss in Malaysia is approximately 16.5seconds, those on slicks were around 5 seconds a lap faster than those inters so it would take just over 3 laps to regain the time lost by pitting for slicks.

"I'm sure McLaren would have had their strategy team calculating every conceivable possibility, so having seen the times Ricciardo was putting in McLaren would have calculated what I have above (this refers to a laptime chart) well before they decided to pit Hamilton. So even if they believed it would rain again (which it did, lightly on lap 44 I think) McLaren would have been able to work out pretty quickly that it was faster to pit for new slicks and potentially inters later than staying on worn inters and potentially new inters later.

Every other team must have realised this as Hamilton was the very last car on track to pit for slicks. "

I dont know the answers, but I will ask the questions. Thats it from me on this now...(big sighs of relief all round!!) Onward to China :D

For all McLaren's talk of total equality, there has always been a little bit of bias towards one driver or another, Martin Whitmarsh undoubtedly favours Jenson, before that Ron Dennis preferred Lewis over Heikki Kovalainen and Fernando Alonso, before that Hakkinen and Raikkonen over David Coulthard... it's always happened, if Ron Dennis was still team principle, I'd bet my bottom dollar that he'd favour Lewis Hamilton (and I'd also be willing to bet no one would complain)! There is lots of talk of Jenson being favoured because Lewis Hamilton was the first world champion since Damon Hill in 1996 and JB has never been a big fan favourite because he wasn't winning for much of his career because he decided to stick with BAR/Honda for most of it.

well it's not like all of these calls were to benefit Jenson over Lewis. Jenson was Waaaaaaaaaaaaay out of the race by that point, so driver bias in this situation is simply irrelevant. bad call? probably. conspiracy against Lewis? no. get over it.

Well thats the most honest and reasoned response Ive had to my concerns and I'll bear all those points in mind. I didnt know about the Damon Hill thing. Thanks for the response Myown.

I don't think there is any kind of conspiracy going on since that is kind of crazy i just think that Mclaren have made alot of bad tactical choices over the last few years, not all their choices have been bad obviously as some of their tactical choices have won them races but anyone following them over the past few years have to admit they have made more questionably bad choices than they have made good atleast over the last 3 years, this is most likely because of the fact they have had to take alot of risks in those years which just didn't pay off and maybe they are now being "too safe".

Either way you look at it Mclaren made some tactical mistakes on sunday which may or may not have cost them points but as most people here have pointed out every team makes mistakes and Hamilton is still in a strong position so it will hopefully not affect his title chances.
