I take it every single person who have posted in this thread is either an outright Hamilton fan or a hardcore closet Hamilton fan. Closet fans being secretly in love with him. :hehe:

The lap times show Lewis was faster than Alonso (though not as fast as Perez.) And I still dont understand why McLaren asked Jenson to pit before Lewis...giving him the lead. What happened to the lead driver gets the first stop policy?

I'm an unabashedly Hamilton fan, but I much rather like him when he shuts up and drives, you know, like he's doing so far this year.

Really? I didn't mind him last year either, I preferred his style of going for wins no matter what.

But without a doubt, it's good to see he has the right mentality this year. When the big picture is there for the taking, he does seem to be thinking a bit more in the car.

Did they ask him to pit? I didn't hear any radio communication between them so I don't know. I would expect that Jenson made the call to come in, but if McLaren called him in first then I'd be like

In wet races it's up to the driver to choose their tyre you only have to look back to last year for proof. What ever they are comfortable on is what's important, Lewis could say its like ice out here while Jenson could say I want the slicks. The team wouldn't stop a driver coming in.

But ffs this argument is getting so bloody old, I think I'm going to have to block some members so I don't end up breaking my computer when I log on here!

Whoa...you have some anger management issues there. This is just a forum mate.

Yeah i thought this was, like, common knowledge and also with very obvious reasoning behind it!

No McLaren made the call for Jenson, 2nd and 3rd ones anyway. The first one Jenson called after they told him others were pitting for full wets. They didnt tell lewis that they just asked him what conditions were like.

Second stop Lewis confirms its ok for inters and they ask Jenson to pit!!
Here are the transcripts

Pit: "Ferrari in."
Pit » HAM: "Can we have an update on the conditions? How are the tyres?"
Hamilton: "The rain is getting heavier, but it's okay. The car is aquaplaning in places, but it's okay."

Button: "Box this lap."
Jenson pits for full wets. [Lap 4]
Hamilton: "I'm starting to aquaplane."
Pit » HAM: "Jenson has just pitted, but the Red Bulls are still on inters."
Pit » HAM: "Other cars are going faster on full wets. We think we should box this lap. Please confirm."
Hamilton: "Okay, box this lap."
[Lap 5]

Pit » HAM: "Some cars might come in for inters quite soon. What are your thoughts?"
Hamilton: "It's slightly wetter than when we started the race, but it's probably okay for inters."

Pit » BUT: "Box this lap for inters!" [Lap 13]
Pit » HAM: "About 5 cars have stopped for inters, including Jenson. Keep us informed of conditions."
Hamilton: "It's good for inters. Box this lap."
[Lap 14]

Pit » HAM: "We still think there could be more rain to come. We want to keep going on these tyres."
Button: "These tyres will be no good if it rains."
Pit » BUT: "Okay. Some cars have switched to slick tyres and they are quicker. We think it's ready for slicks."
Pit » BUT: "Box this lap. Slick tyres."
Button: "How long until the rain?"
Pit » BUT: "We can't be sure, Jenson. We think this is the right thing to do."
Pit: "Jenson is pitlane entry now."
[Lap 39]
The guys on slicks are now 5s per lap faster than those on intermediates...
Pit » HAM: "Lewis, we need to box this lap. ALO has pitted for dries, as have the cars behind."
Hamilton: "Box this lap okay."
[Lap 41]

You do realise each driver has their own dedicated race engineer, they're the guys who talk to the drivers 99% of the time. And therefore are capable of making independent decisions in unpredictable conditions like that race. We've seen that many times before, it's nothing new. Also you assume that transcript is full, which, if it's the same one i saw, definitely isn't.
#296956
Yes I know they have their own engineer( overseen by the race engineer) and the transcript is from the live Mclaren timimg wall.

You've probably got an old @ss powerbook like the one Carrie Bradshaw used in s e x & the city and you're just looking for an excuse to get a new one. :hehe:

The radio transmission i heard was from Jenson asking to come in as he didn't like the feel of the car.I don't think they wanted him to pit ,or even asked him to.Was just his call,as he said he couldn't drive the car it was that bad. They wanted him to stay out as the weather was changing and thought he would have to stop twice in quickly. But he felt the 20 seconds he lost in the pits he would soon make up with a driveable car.
Did Jenson even have the lead ?
