As Burn says they took a lot from the Greeks, but definitely they gave to the world an alphabet, a language, a system of justice and a whole culture. The reason of their rise and fall has been objet of study and I believe it still is. I can’t imagine how many historians and analysts the US Administration has for these questions, but undoubtedly many.
The reason of its fall wasn’t undoubtedly its arrogance, but their decadence, because of their accommodative uses, their style of life focused much more on pleasure than in fight and discipline, their corruption and ultimately their lost of vigor and strength.
I believe the US Empire Administration is very conscious of that and probably it’s one of the reasons for having a war from time to time. They have the only true army and navy of the world and they want things continuing being like that.
About oil, most of it is in Arab countries and they have the right to do whatever they want with it, but if you think about the consequences of an oil embargo for the world economy, you should understand why they US has the responsibility of keeping the oil supply open. I’m not talking about rich people becoming less rich, but about a devastating economical depression impoverishing people to the point of starving and die in the cold winters, a true agony for millions of families around the world. I´m saying that the US has not only the right, but the obligation to keeps the oil supply flowing.
I also believe that the US is closely studying the rise of China that would become a huge economic power, the biggest the world has seen. The US won’t allow China in any case to become more powerful than them. It would be an enormous lack of responsibility from the US Administration to allow that.
We don’t live in an ideal world; any action has its consequences.
I’m sorry for being so off topic, but I find it interesting enough for being discussed.
