In a strange way it reminds me of the Alonso/Hamilton year but in reverse.

Lewis got his nose bloodied in what he believes to be his team and he has freaked out.

It was up to Lewis to say not to pit, just as it was up to Jenson to say he wanted to pit.

I'm confused reading this thread...why are people saying it was a racing incident between Lewis and Mark when Mark owned up and apologised in public to Lewis for shunting him out?

All aboard the "Lewis Hamilton is so much better than any other human species breathing, deceased or extinct" bus.

Mark Apologised for making a mistake, just because he apologised doesn't mean it was deliberate. It takes alot of maturity to apologise for a mistake in f1- something one Mr Hamilton would surely be noting.

I don't think people are suggesting he deliberately crashed into Lewis, rather that he was a bit reckless, throughout the entire race. He just seemed like he hadn't cooled off after qualifying and then with every subsequent little problem he got more and more hotheaded.

Did Jenson say that he had to pit? Or did he just drive into the pitlane? It looked very much like the latter.

He told the team that he wants to pit for slick tires and the team told it's his call. Of course the team was ready for the pitstop.

I dont think this thread needs locking just yet.
However, Mclaren or Whitmarsh at least made the official statement, and its pretty consistent with what I have been saying:
In retrospect, the decision was wrong because of how things turned out. But during the race, and according to Lewis' feedback about his tires when he was following Kubica after the gutsy drive he had just done, and the feedback from the guys who had pitted and also pitted, it was at the moment what the team felt was the right decision.
Whitmarsh said he owns up to the decision and recognises it came out wrong, but mentions they did it because it was what they thought was right and the best for Lewis.

The way Lewis came out and blamed the team for the decision (when it was also part his decision and based on his feedback) over the radio and afterwards, is WRONG.

Yes, it sucks that Webber rammed him, he deserved better after that drive... s**t happens. But dont blame the team after racing stuff.
Or will he be now saying its all because he has the #2 car again?? :censored:

Alonso wasnt mature enough to deal with this... I think Jenson is.

Whitmarsh statement:
Looking back at the strategy, Whitmarsh admitted the team had made the wrong call but said at the time it had seemed like the right thing to do.

"With the information we had at the time, given where Lewis was, we felt that it was the right call. I think in retrospect and hindsight, if we look at how the race played out - if Lewis could have made those tyres last then he could have finished at least second today and we would have a one-two. Inimitably in McLaren style, you look at a win and say - 'damn, it could have been a one-two'. It was disappointing because it was a fantastic drive by Lewis. We as a team made that decision, I have to be accountable for that and I am disappointed with the outcome, but I am not disappointed by the process because I thought it was the right decision at the time."

He added that the decision had been based on the fastest lap times recorded by Michael Schumacher and Mark Webber after they stopped for new tyres.

"Lewis was losing time behind Kubica, you could see he had graining of his rear left tyre and you could see that Michael had stopped and was going purple, Webber had stopped and was going purple and more than one second per lap quicker."

shoo. this thread is aging fast so before it gets locked for any reason whatsoever I'd like to add. - No ivey, the team wasnt ready. He practically surprised them as he entered the pitlane. they just about managed to get to their posts as he stopped.

Ewan - you had me laughing on the floor with that crack. Just one question. those boots. Are we talking clear heels?

Hamilton cry again after he lack of patience, it was very dificult to pass Alonso, he took innecesary risks... as always.

I wish all drivers were like Hamilton was yesterday.(btw, the best Hamilton's race I've ever seen, simply fantastic)

*Edit: Ahhh, and it was Webber's fault, he even apologized for HIS mistake.

Well, lot of drivers are used not to recognize their mistakes...

What I meant by that was that nobody could blame "hamilton's lack of patience" for the accident...
