okay, so its not the best looking car fine - but on a technical level its amazing.

Aesthetically, it's a flop in my opinion.

Brabham BT46.

That car is awesome imo.

I hate the back half.

In fact I seem to have issues with a lot of cars from the 70's, I find them all a bit unsightly.

Fairly disgusting colour scheme, again with the yellow and blue combo

The red one's okay, the one below it's a bit of a rust bucket though.

They're both the same... well except the top one is Lauda's and the other was John Watson's. :P

Yeh the back isn't great, front isn't much better but what it could do was amazing.

that fan on the back which was for "cooling" created a vacuum literary duckling the car to the road .

During the 1978 Swedish Grand Prix there was an oil spill on the track, other cars were spinning off all over the show yet the BT46 just drove over the oil and won.

But Politics intervened and it was banned for the next race.

But it still shows the technical genius that Gordon Murry was.

Fantastic Idea

Ah. Well I like the camera used for the top photo. The one used for the bottom is clearly old hat.

the early 80s cars with no front wing look pretty ugly
Image
weird how some of the cars had no front wings, while their teammates have the car with the front wing, how much did that affect the handling?

Ugly
The friend and also a journalist Rodrigo Favoretto raised an interesting rabbit through a response to the latest posts: McLaren have gone on a test at Monza, back in the 90s with a front nozzle high style Tyrrell.

The answer is yes. The engineers at McLaren, then led by Neil Oatley, did a study of the complicated aerodynamic chassis MP4 / 5 and have tested such high bill at the Italian track, so far the fastest in Formula 1, Ayrton Senna at the wheel.

But he'd better not have done it. Because the photo, you realize that the bill was aesthetically horrible and it was a solution that did not work. So much so that McLaren just use the tip high in 1995, the ill-fated model MP4/10, the first of the season with Mercedes-Benz.

I thought the 1996 MP4/11 was worse looking than the 1995 MP4/10... those cockpit sides look like something taken from a bath tub!
