go piquet GOOOOO

Looks like Piquet only going to be using 1 horsepower this weekend. :hehe:

That was bad :hehe:

Renault said they're giving piquet the double diffuser. They didn't say anything about a car though. I wouldn't be surprise frankly if Piquet ended up with a wooden chasis.

Ferrari expects hard weekend in Bahrain

By Pablo Elizalde Thursday, April 23rd 2009, 10:08 GMT

Ferrari team boss Stefano Domenicali is expecting the Italian squad to endure another challenging weekend at the Bahrain Grand Prix, but he is hopeful the Maranello squad will make progress for Spain.

The team has endured its worst start to a season since 1981, having failed to score any points in the first three races, with its car not being fast nor reliable.

Domenicali is pinning his hopes on the improvements to be introduced in the car for the Spanish Grand Prix, which will mark the start of the European season.

In the meantime, however, the Italian is expecting his team to continue with its difficulties.

"We have endured a very difficult start to the season," said Domenicali. "We knew we would suffer in China and in all probability, we will be suffering again here this weekend.

"After that, it is to be hoped that we will make a step forward as from the Spanish Grand Prix, even allowing for the fact that we cannot expect those teams currently ahead of us to wait for us to catch up and they too will be developing their cars further.

"However, the most important point is that the entire team and everyone at Maranello, is working very hard to extricate itself from this situation as soon as possible. We have no points yet and so the gap to the leaders is a big one, but I want to make it very clear that we have absolutely not given up fighting for this year's championship titles.

"And why should we, when theoretically there are still 252 points available this season per team. Development will be ongoing, as it is every year and this will continue whatever the results over the next few races.

"Even if the situation was worse than this, we still would not give up because this is absolutely not part of the Ferrari philosophy and, with the same group of people we have now, we have fought back from situations like this, from situations which the outside world saw as impossible. The same group of people have won three of the last four titles available over the past two years."

Domenicali, who suggested after the Chinese GP that Ferrari could shift its focus to 2010 early if it continues with its problems, insisted that there is no reason to give up.

"The lesson to be learned from this is that it is far too early to draw conclusions about how the season will evolve," said Domenicali. "That is further reason for Ferrari not to give up on chasing its aim of winning the titles."

Well no rain this weekend, but we have the threat of this:

Bahrain concerns
No rain, but sandstorm risk at Sakhir

Three Grand Prix into the 2009 season, most Formula One figures are looking forward to a fully-dry race weekend in Bahrain.

The recent Sepang and Shanghai events were drenched by rain, clouding the assessment of the sport's new pecking order.

Bahrain is unlikely to be wet this weekend, with climate charts showing no more than 10mm rainfall for an average April month.

Local reports are indeed predicting a very hot weekend, with the possibility of a sandstorm or two.

"That would certainly shake things up," said reigning world champion Lewis Hamilton. "It's a weird circuit in the sense that you are just driving through the desert; there is no grass anywhere.

"Bahrain's meteorology office said the highest chance of a light sandstorm is for Sunday.

"The chance of rising sand is there," a forecaster told the local Gulf Daily News.

BMW trailing in the KERS race
“We are on the limit with certain circuits”

BMW Sauber's Kinetic Energy Recovery System is not living up to the Swiss-based squad's expectations, the publication Motorsport Aktuell claims.

The German-owned team has had a poor start to the season, despite championing the energy re-use technology and marking the words 'Active Hybrid' on the rear wing of the F1.09.

Only Nick Heidfeld has consistently used the system so far, reportedly because BMW's system is much heavier than for example the leading McLaren Mercedes KERS package.

"I don't know whether the systems of our competitors are heavier," Mercedes' Norbert Haug is quoted as saying by spox.com, "but if ours weighed 10 kilos more, we probably would not use it."

It is also believed that while the 82hp power bursts are available to McLaren drivers for the full allowed 6.

6 seconds per lap, the same is not always true of the BMW KERS.

BMW team boss Mario Theissen acknowledged to Germany's Auto Motor und Sport: "It depends on how many braking zones there are, in terms of charging the batteries.”

"With our system, we are on the limit with certain circuits," he added.

I think so far BMW have been pretty fail with this season they really need to up their game and show everyone that they are the top that they should be.

Sandstorm!! I don't think Bridgestone have tyre's for that. But they'll probably still have Kimi on the wrong tyre's :hehe:

I really really hope there's no sandstorm. We seen Moto GP re-schedule the race, but I doubt we'll see F1 do such a thing. Fingers Crossed for this weekend.

Patrick Head's not happy with the team's performance and has been shaking them up this week.

It's time for the team to pull up their sleeves, the FW31 is a fast car and it can get back in the mix fighting for a first or second row start slot this weekend. Well Nico will be, Naka can look forward to fighting to get out of Q1!!! If Nakajima gets into Q3 I will... actually on second thoughts no I won't. ;)

The FW31 is a top 4 car, now the team must make it look like one too, with or without Nakajima ruining the car's credibility.

Yep, I'm absolutely confident that Williams will be right there fighting at the front in Bahrain. They've been amongst unlucky ones in the odd races that have opened the season, so if Bahrain is more normal, they're going to show us their true pace in racing trim here.

Malaysia was by far the most cruel race in terms of luck. Nico has commented that he was about to move back up into a podium place before the red flag came out because a lot of people were about to pit for tyres, including Glock who was flying at that point.

In China the team must have gotten too cocky, and China even dry was a case of who could get their tyres warmed up quickly, Williams couldn't get to grips with it, and I think Brawn didn't either, but Red Bull could.

Let's have another 3 way duel for the lead like we did in Malaysia between Nico, Trulli (or Glock) and Button.

Watch out though, if Alonso gets into Q3 he will no doubt try and go for pole on fumes again, and this time he'll have KERS.

That's an interesting point actually, o what extent do we think a very low fuel, well-qualified Alonso would be a factor in the race?
