This will make Nico much more cautious with fuel and combined with trying to maintain his lead and taking no risks, we are likely to see the old Nico who will go missing in a few races. The fuel angle is interesting - he has had all season to improve his fuel usage, he has had Lewis' data yet burns up more fuel whether in front or behind Lewis.

All it will take is one excursion into the pack amongst the Sergio, Mags and Massa's ( alas maldo will probably be too far back) and we could see him finish a few places behind the front.

If he was gonna show everyone he really is doing anything in that car half the grid couldnt do (given the same reliability and luck) this would be the time

I disagree with a couple of the radio clampdowns.
First one is with not telling drivers about fuel saving required, Its like the Fia want cars to run out of fuel before the finish, Its punishment enough for a driver when they have to go slower when saving fuel in the first place.
Second one is tyre pressures and temps.
And also most importantly is brake wear and temperatures, I don't know what the Fia are thinking about with that one. Maybe the Fia gets enjoyment when a driver loses his brakes.

I don't have a issue with not telling drivers about power unit setting, diff setting, clutch mapping and specific corners where a driver is losing or gaining. No big problems with those ones for now anyway.

I'm neither here nor there regarding this issue. What concerns me most is that we've heard nothing as to what the penalty will be if the rule is broken. It's not necessarily the driver's fault if a team radio's something that's not allowed. But what's an appropriate penalty? A fine? Points deduction?

How are they going to monitor and make decisions on all of the transmission? They're going to have to have 22 monitors listening to each driver's radio real time. Each of these monitors has to interpret the rules on the fly. Will the communications be reviewed post race to see if there were inconsistencies? Penalties added hours or days after the race?

Are rules going to apply differently to Hamilton because he's blacker than most other drivers? Will Rosberg's communications be let slide like a cutting of a chicane? All of these questions and more will be answered after our first controversy in Singapore this Sunday.

Interesting to see what there are thinking on the penalty side of things, that could be a worry. Things could turn out to be messy and make the sport look like a joke. Its clear things haven't been thought out very well IMO. Only time will tell I guess when Singapore and Japan come up.

:rofl::rofl:

Sounds like Lewis is dead in the water till younger darker drivers like Jam M and this new chap test driver at Merc come through the field, surely its not yet within the regulations to be 'relatively tanned and in possession of a super licence'
Could be true though, maybe some of the less bright stewards just assuming that because he is blacker than others he must be also of a 'darker' morailty. But then some of the darkest demoralitised drivers , except maldo look like baby jesus , Nico - check, MS - check, Seb - check, Sutil - check. Maybe they have something else in common :scratchchin:

seriously though - the penalty for radio comms breaches is a 5 sec penalty :hehe: it just means Nico and Lewis can have about 10 breaches each every race before worrying about losing 2nd oplace

There are so many ways around this. E.G

Teams cannot answer direct questions from the drivers but can tell them if they can push or not, conversation goes:

Driver: Can I push?
Team: Yes push.

or

Driver: Can I push?
Team: We got that question, we cannot reply

Already you can see how flawed and pointless this is.

They keep saying they want the sport to be easier to understand then they bring this rule in that is blurry at best.

FIA have told F1 Teams, that the ban on Team Radio/driver advice extends to pit boards from this w/end's race in Singapore...

Its like i said a few days ago, they didnt think this thru as they will have to ban pitboards as well. irony is that pitboards have been used to help the driver for decades before digital comms etc. Pitboards will not be able to give coded massages of 'hes moved from 20th to 2nd and is right behind you, Nico' - something like 'Nico :yikes::smmack: '

But in the olden days pitboards were used to communicate anything at all - you are now the leader 20 secs ahead, no need to push too hard - this will be outlawed now IIUC (SIC - understand instead of remember) - that was part of the whole show.

They may just have opened up a Pandoras box at a time when less casual viewers are going to races, and there are much much cheaper series offering thrils as well. This has always been the case with the bernie approach - so busy playing parties against each other to keep control that he has allowed the desire of 1 basket case team to change the rules again mid season in a way that seems minor now but could very soon escalate and turn out to be the final push into obsolesce - how can it make common sense to ban a high tech method yet be obliged to ban a half century old method at the same time????
