When you buy a racing helmet, they are very specific to say that the helmet should be replaced if you're involved in an accident where the helmet absorbs an impact even if it looks undamaged.

Even if you drop your motorcycle helmet, it's recommended to replace it.

Didn't his doctor say something to the effect of, "the longer he's in a stable condition, the better"?

edit: yep, here it is:

Abridged version:

Gordon Rayner & David Chazan  wrote:">-> Prof Payen said the 44-year-old German's condition had "slightly improved" and was "relatively stable". He added: "The more hours he spends in a stable situation, the better it is."

The spokesperson said they won't keep coming on to say things are the same. But elsewhere I've read the longer he's stable the better. If things carry on as is, they may lighten the coma a little to do more tests. There are lots of ( heamatomas? Small bleeds?lesions?) and they can't even think of the implications of these yet, but they operated to remove a big one which relieved pressure and he's been stable since. Sorry I can't remember where I read it...maybe the ex. F1 doctor I mentioned earlier. And apologies if I haven't said it medically.

I think we're in the lap of the Gods. Everything crossed. Kept fighting babe, you're a winner!

Fans converge to honour comatose Michael Schumacher as he turns 45

GRENOBLE, France -- Scores of Michael Schumacher's fans converged Friday on a hospital in the French Alps to honour the Formula One great on his 45th birthday, just days after he was critically injured in a skiing accident...

...One group of fans quietly assembled in view of the Grenoble hospital's windows, unfurling a large banner for Ferrari, the racing team that Schumacher had anchored.

Ferrari on Friday sent special birthday greetings to Schumacher, recalling the 72 victories he won from 1996-2006.

"Today is Michel Schumacher's birthday. In these hours he's on the most important race of his life and we want to dedicate a special honour to him," the statement said. "Forza (Come on) Michael!"...

I don't know how I feel about the Ferrari vigil; part of me respects them for doing something for one of their most famous drives, put the other part sees them telling the tifosi to wear red and bring flags is almost a PR cash-in, he drove for other teams too; but I couldn't imagine anyone turning up in Jordan or Benneton gear after Ferrari said that. I dunno, it's nice but it just leaves a sour after-taste.

"I am now turning the experience to the benefit of hard-up constituents by producing a booklet on dealing with debt. No surrender."

Well clearly you didn't do a good job at dealing with the debt; you went bankrupt!

The text underneath says

According to former driver Philippe Streiff, friend of Michael Schumacher this CHU Grenoble, the prognosis of former Formula 1 champion is no longer engaged. Remarks that he would have made Professor Gérard Saillant.

Not sure what engaged means?
