No one is saying Seb is not special, or one of the top 3 drivers. Lewis and Alonso would have better results in that car as they are more adaptable and have better race craft. Seb is probably faster than Alonso, but Alonso has better racecraft and racing brain. lewis is faster that Seb and has better racecraft and is more resilient to setbacks.

.

That might be your opinion and of a few others but that does not mean it is true.

Ferrari fans will question Vettel's ability/success because we compare him to our own Alonso.
McLaren fans will question Vettel's ability/success because they compare him to their own favourite, Hamilton.
Neither of us will voluntarily give Vettel his due because that would feel a ""teeny weeny bit"" disloyal to our guy!!

C'est la vie!! :wavey:

You mean McLaren fans will question Button's ability/success because they compare him to Max Chilton

No. I said what I meant! I know Hamilton is at Mercedes; but, I think he had a wider fan base there that he had at McLaren.
Though, I have been known to make a mistake!! :P

You could wait a long time for a reply from Cooking! :hehe:

Maybe he's "Simmering"?

Possibly but he's definately gone off the boil now. Maybe DD has just left him to stew in his own juice for a while! :hehe::rimshot:

Great set up for that one, eh??

Brace yourselves for a lot more of andrew's posts now that Cookin isn't there to make him look like a ******* at every turn.

So to conclude this thread, I'm guessing we agree they are indeed the top 3 drivers of today, and have their own styles. Currently Vettel's style is working the best, right place at the right time and making no mistakes. The rest of us can only hope that Mercedes puts an end to it come 2014. :drink:

Perhaps, but IMO the Renault turbo engine will be quite competitive. But being the first year of the return of the Turbos, there are bound to be teething problems and reliability issues and that is where Mercedes might do better than Renault.
Couple with the engine change ate the other new rules eg less front wing, lower nose etc. Newey's innovativeness is likely to be a factor there.

Read some of the 2014 rule changes threads around here. There's the biggest affront to aero downforce in the rules that we've seen in some time. There is also no room to play with exhaust blown rear ends or engine overruns.

Pure aero has been greatly diminished, and so well be looking for other factors to take more of a role. The violin virtuoso isn't a great help when there's no string section highlighted in the overture. :)

I have read the 2014 rules on the F1 site. My point is that they will apply to every team and so affect all of them. It is not as though the other Techs do not use aerodynamic principles in their present designs; just that maybe Newey makes the best use of them. And he has won WDCs and WCCs with 3 different teams over the last 21 years and adapted to changing circumstances. Granted, the 2014 rule changes might seem more drastic but I am sure that he's already working on it. A violin virtuoso might be able to play the piano just as well.
