Oh the car's fast! Just won't perform on high fuel and fragile tyres. Check out that blog! They were working all through practises for race pace and were genuinely surprised at quali pace. They have issues agreed. Spain was a shocker, but the previous four were better than expected and Monaco should be good. They're still up on this point last year by a considerable amount....but a lesser amount than Mclaren are down on this time last year :D

Unfortunately for Lewis; I don't see Mercedes putting very much effort into the 2013 car to correct the issues, five races in and they are already going backwards in comparison to the lead teams, I predict that come Canada, McLaren will be comfortably ahead of Mercedes, traditionally McLaren push development until the very last race, Mercedes will definitely have 1 1/2 eyes on the 2014 car!

The 2014 car is why they keep hiring Mclaren's best and brightest. Don't forget that Mclaren still has to overtake Force India, before they can even put an eye towards overtaking Mercedes.

Monaco will tilt things hopefully for Mercedes, and for Canada the new rubber will be in place so my thinking is that things aren't as cut and dry as they appear. But hey, I'm an eternal optimist.

Sounds more like wishful thinking.

Mercedes will be high up in monaco, but they will not win, tyres on that car is a massive issue.

A little wishful thinking, but also going on recent past history, McLaren have always ended up in a better position that they started while Mercedes have fallen back to scrapping for minor points!

True. Wouldn't be surprised if it happens again. It's certainly heading that way.

Mercedes has had a 3 year history, 3 of those years listening to the direction of Old man Schumacher who spent more time crashing than driving the car. Rosberg himself said it this year, the team 'is listening more' to him now on where the car should go and so far it's paying dividends compared to where they were last year. Even after winning a race they were nowhere close to the points haul they are at now. Barcelona was a shocker, but I can't see them falling back even further than that!

Shame innit?

What's a shame is how Schumacher crashed his way into retirement and destroyed his legacy. As for Merc's progress this year, the jury is still out. It's been 5 races...some people just want to see the team fail because Hamilton is there.

I don't want them to fail, personally I'd like to see all the top teams having at least one driver out there battling for the win, but history does seem to be repeating, regardless of whether Mercedes are listening to their drivers or not, Lewis sounded just as despondent over the radio and post race as he ever did at McLaren.

Give mercedes time, getting a top car is hard, they only achieved one win last year and they were not fighting for the lead so how were they going to make a car that was at the top.

Starting 2nd and falling to 12th isn't exactly a joyous experience....anyway at McLaren he was despondent mostly because of operational/strategic muck ups, at Merc it's a car issue which is exactly the challenge he expected to face. Ross Brawn didn't promise wins in 2013, but the most worrying thing for Merc is to keep their development pace up with the top teams. Spain was a wake up call, it remains to be seen if they can indeed wake up! :)

They may not do so bad at Monaco, because of the unique style of the circuit. I don't expect them to win, but I also wouldn't expect to see them fall back at such an alarming rate, for obvious reasons. If they qualify well, we may have a bit of a train going on though.

Ah, Mercedes will be fine. I think they are still on for a championship run. I think that's partially why Lewis was so dejected; in that, although he was not specifically touting such, he believes that if they keep it close (ala Alonso last year), and just give him something consistent in its handling characteristics, he can make the difference when it counts the most (at season's end).

The new tires must allow the car to show its true race speed, must be a game changer, as it were. If not, ignore the above. :D

Peace ya'll.

:hehe:

No. Next year maybe, this year no. Defiantly be in the top 5 though, even if they are the 5th.
