Boring

Outside of the forum they're the best of pals! :hehe:

I think this could be one of the longest disagreements in the history of this forum. :hehe:

I don't seen why there would be a problem with Vodafone quiting on them. Telmex will make up for the loss of a title sponsor.

They could get UPS... erm wait that sponsor is not only already taken, but the brown logo looks like poo poo.

Maybe you should remind us of your prediction. :D

I vaguely recall that I mentioned I though that Telmex would become a McLaren sponsor and was binned in the most vulgar (and expected) way.

Looks like I'm not as green as I am cabbage looking.

Sep 2012:

Yeah, i sure would be excited to see Perez in a good car. This rumour does make some sense commercially too, Telmex replacing Vodafone as McLaren's title sponsor.

Jan 2013:

Telmex wouldn't have moved anyway while Mclaren still has a contract with Vodafone. However said contract apparently runs out at the end of this year, so we'll see what happens there... If Perez becomes a strong frontrunner then you can be sure that Telmex would want a piece of that exposure.

I don't know s*** about telecoms, why would i do that? I don't get it. :wavey: I have no interest in ever working in F1 either!

But it is alarming how much is leaving Mclaren, top drivers, top engineers, top line sponsors. Telmex may come in,and that would be great for McLaren's financial situation, but I suspect there may be strings....like you have to have a Mexican driver. McLaren can then no longer choose who they think is the best available driver....and that's a slippy slope. But it might not be Telmex, it might be some other really good brand that no one's thought of like Pandora :) or All Saints :) or superdry :) or Radley :) ( those are ones I like). Or maybe apple, and they could have a big apple painted on the car.

I'm not sure McLaren could make a Formula 1 car thin enough for Apple to approve...

It's not alarming racechick, it's a normal part of the sport. It's only wishful thinking by some...

OR: Apple could make sure that McLaren loses that big fat arse and slims down like their competition :P

What's alarming is the schadenfreude displayed by some so-called F1 fans and wishing the worst on McLaren in a McLaren support thread. Maybe we could have a McLaren hate thread where some of us could avoid the hate.

As Bud says there is nothing alarming in the least at a title sponsors contract coming to an end and not being renewed. Given that McLaren is an established F1 name and a front running team, finding a new title sponsor will be pretty easy if one has not yet been found (which it has).

There's a different between bad mouthing and speaking plainly. I understand bad mouthing, and the reality is that a lot of those F1 fans that complain when the team or driver they like is the target, also do it very loudly to others themselves. :cough: it's okay if the team is Ferrari?

Williams was an F1 monster not too long ago, and yet today they considered a season with one win a success. No one is immune to decay and no one is above reproach.

I'm looking forward to Sunday, but regardless of who wins there, we'll not know much more about what the rest of the season will bring. Even McLaren's dominating performance last year meant little as to how the actual season panned out.

We live GP to GP... can I get an amen!
