The way I see it, being a fan of the team, is that McLaren simply have the best driver pairing on the grid! Waheeey! Just look how close the Lewis V Jenson poll is for confirmation of this!

And this should be a cause for celebration, not bickering. :)

I'm not a McLaren fan, if I have to pick a team to support it'll be Williams. I am a Jenson Button fan, and make no apologies for that. I believe in the last two years, Jenson has grown as a driver, he is a much more aggressive driver than he was when he became world champion; but still remains very weary of what is going around him and the condition of his tyres. In a ten lap sprint race, I believe Lewis would win every time but over the course of 200 miles, the two styles of driving balances out, which is why I think it's foolish to discount Jenson in 2012.

It's also grossly unfair to dismiss Jenson's achievements last season because Lewis made lots of mistakes, Jenson drove almost flawlessly last season and picked up the points, when you factor in Jenson's two retirements through no fault of his own, he could have been another 30 - 40 points ahead. To claim that Jenson didn't get the most out of the car is ridiculous; he finished consistently on the podium behind the Red Bull's most of the season scoring nine podiums and three wins and not finishing lower than sixth during the entire season, which the exceptions of the two retirements!

You haven't factored in Lewis' DNFs? Brazil - car failure, Canada - taken out by his teammate while trying to overtake, India - race massively compromised thanks to Felipe Baby?

That's kinda my point, if you factor out the retirements, you end up with two fairly even drivers, I get annoyed with many LH fans simply dismissing JB before a wheel has turned in anger!

I genuinely hope that LH does bring his 'A' game this season, I have no issue with people thinking that LH is the better driver, but I do take issue with the trash talking about JB!

I think people don't really mean to dismiss JB, but Lewis fans in turn think it's unfair that suddenly Button is touted to be 'Better than Lewis' because of 2011. Forgetting everything what Lewis has done from Day 1 in F1.

Comparing Lewis' performance like for like with Button according to experience, there really is no comparison. Better car or not, Button has been beaten by nearly all his teammates in F1. However, I do believe he is much better now than he ever was. I regard his 2011 drive miles better than even his WDC year. But on normal circumstances I don't see him beating Lewis. He's proven many wrong though, Lewis has not thrashed Button like first predicted by few (myself included).

Ultimately Jenson drove better last season, that doesn't mean that Lewis is a lesser driver. I've personally not heard anyone say that Jenson is a better driver, he has stepped up his game, while Lewis seemingly went backwards in 2011. This is why I want Lewis to be on his "A" game in 2012, so if Jenson does win the Inter team battle, there will be no excuses!

I agree. I want him to turn it to 11, and start beating the crap out of people on the track and hopefully those new mirrors will keep him out of trouble! :nono:

That and I think ferrari is lying out their asses and they have a good car this year and Massa will be all up in Hamilton again and vice versa.

"Jenson Button's tilt at another F1 championship excites McLaren

McLaren have backed Jenson Button to repeat his world championship success of 2009 following his stunning win in the season's opening race here on Sunday.
McLaren, famously, do not have a preferred driver. They treat Button and Lewis Hamilton equally. But the team principal Martin Whitmarsh's high praise for Button, and his confidence that the 32-year-old can win the title, will cause Hamilton to bristle in the run-up to the next race in Malaysia on Sunday"

It's the same story you can read on many sources, same quotes from the same interview. Go to planetf1, pit pass where ever you can read the same things from MW but no ones suggesting what the guardian is. It's funny how journos can manipulate the same quotes and put totally different meanings to them.

I mean Jenson just won, ofcourse he has a shot at the title. Where did he say Lewis didn't?

Massa will have to get out of the way, When Hamilton comes up to pass his Ferrari, Massa will be getting a blue flag. Thats the only way I can see LH and FM being on the same piece of track, Well maybe for the next couple races anyway until Ferrari and Massa get there act together.

To be honest, Whitmarsh didn't say anything very 'special' here....Button won, so this talk is normal. I remember last year when Lewis won in Shanghai, Whitmarsh was saying basically the same thing about him (it was only the 3rd race though).

Good to see this part though:

Meanwhile, Hamilton said: "I don't like going backwards in my career. I went back two spaces back here. I want to make sure in the next race I am going forwards.

"Championships are based on points and consistency, so it's something to work on. Overall, it was a strong weekend and I felt like I did quite well in the race, I just had a couple of unfortunate situations, which I could not do anything about."

He needs to forget Melbourne and focus on the win in Malaysia. Most importantly, I think he should completely forget about Button and focus on his own performance and the win will come. Plus, if he gets pole again, he needs to be more aggressive at the start, teammate or not, he needs to close the door early or make it impossible for Button to make the first corner if he doesn't yield. I'm sure he's not going to let go 2 in a row. Better to crash than give your teammate an easy time.

As long as he doesn't crash into his team mate. There are two important rules for a driver: Beat your team mate and don't take out your team mate.

I've always liked it when Hamilton's aggressive driving style works because that's what did it for him in '07, '08 and '09 - all those beautiful overtakes.

All Melbourne was, was bad luck. Simple as that. Everyone has bad races and that was one of the them. There's 19 races to go and as long as Red Bull are kept at bay Jenson and Lewis have a good shot at the title, in my opinion.
