Half of Mercedes work force are already working on the 2014 car . They've not given up on 2013 but if they have to will make some sacrifices for the sake of 2014. 2014 will mark the way of the future, and this they HAVE to get right

I hope they don't just give up on this season though....they should target 3rd place in the WCC for a job well done in 2013. 4th place at worst...in case they can't beat Lotus which I hope they do!

I've hear Mercedes are hiring Kubiza to improve the simulator. Lewis has said it's not up to the standard of the one he used at Mclaren. If Kubitza wants to get back into F1 I would think its a superb opportunity for him as well as helping Mercedes.

Well, Kubiza confirms he's been in the Merc simulator...but he not giving much else away.

Andrew Benson on Merc. Great start, but tyres, as always, are still an issue for them:

Hamilton, like Raikkonen, is one place higher in the championship than he ought to be as a result of Alonso's problems, but that should not take away from an impressive start to the season by his new Mercedes team.
The Englishman's decision to quit McLaren has been proved spectacularly right by the rise of Mercedes and his former team's dramatic fall, and he has had two podium finishes and a pole position.
Whether he can sustain a title challenge, though, is less certain. The Mercedes continues to eat up its rear tyres more than its rivals, a major problem in these days of tyre preservation.
The team say they are working on it urgently, but as it is a problem which has afflicted them for more than three years, it seems unlikely they will find a fix overnight.

Rosberg has 'stronger voice' after Schumacher

Nico Rosberg says he has "a stronger voice" at Mercedes following Michael Schumacher's departure from the team.

Schumacher retired for a second time at the end of 2012, with Lewis Hamilton coming in as Rosberg's new team-mate. Having been with Mercedes since it returned to Formula One in 2010, Rosberg is now in his fourth season with the team and when asked if his standing within the team was different after Schumacher left, he replied: "Yes, very.

"I now have a stronger voice," Rosberg told Krone. "And to me that's a beautiful process in which I can help Mercedes become the best team."

Rosberg also said that while he ultimately wanted to win the world championship, this year his focus was on race victories with Mercedes.

"Sure [the title is] the big goal, but now I want to win races, because success is the most fun … We want to improve ourselves - in the direction of race wins."

So that's why Merc were getting nowhere in terms of understanding the car...putting their efforts and listening to Old Man Schumi who's used to tailor made Bridgestone tyres which were made to fit his Ferrari perfectly during all those years. Mercedes forgot that they don't have the same privilege. :hehe:

I bet you could get someone at Mercedes to make an 'official' one of those for Lewis. It's hilarious.
