There are technical innovations on the car which will be immediately obvious when you see them," said McGrath, who added that McLaren is "getting ready for a fight" over its new machine. It is understood that McLaren is focusing on single-lap speed with the MP4-27, which it hopes will allow it to take more pole positions and control races from the front.

McGrath added that beating qualifying master Sebastian Vettel will be crucial if McLaren is to be successful in 2012, particularly as its analysis indicated that the raw pace of last year's MP4-26 was superior towards the end of the season despite Red Bull and Vettel's run of poles.

"He must be a brilliant driver, because by the end of last season we definitely had the best car and he was still whupping us," McGrath said.

Well I think with the same or similar performing car Lewis would have him...not every time, but a lot.

That's what irks me about the whole demeanor of anti-Vettel fans. Always looking for excuses to put him down.

Every driver that makes it to a certain echelon has his anti-(driver name here) fans. It's not exclusive to Vettel. There's also the other extreme, those that will say that their driver is the greatest ever so it goes both ways. In the end we're left with only opinions and how the facts and circumstance support or detract from those opinions.

s***, are we still talking about this guy?

Yeah, so he kicked everyones arses over the last two years, and seemed to do it with relative ease.

Just because he has been better than everyone else, in every aspect, doesnt actually mean he is better.

I predict he will be 4th at the end of the 2012 campaign.

Now can we talk about someone with a lot more talent.... say.... erm...... Charles Pic?

(now if anyone bites and takes any of the above seriously, then I have totally overestimated peoples intelligence around here).

He did overestimate our eyesight.....

You should really learn how to type an ñ and add Alonso into your custom spell check dictionary

Anyways... I think Vettel will keep dominating.... as long as Red Bull is decent, he will be able to mash it up on the top places. Not necessarilly win everything like in 2011. But fight, for sure. So there will be no need for the who is better than who in a few years, they will all have their chance of proving themselves.

People get so overeager to figure who'z teh bezztest eveh..

So a driver needs two titles to get some respect?

Actually I think that's quite fair.....look at other unworthy flash in the pans who benefitted from supercar domination...Jacques Villeneuve, Jenson Button, Damon Hill, ok I just started watching this sport since 1998. And IMO the rest of the 1x WDCs are quite worthy. For Gods sake, Massa almost became champ if not for a mere 1 point? What a travesty that would've been for F1! But the 1Xs are still open to scrutiny till they get their 2nd. :D
