Actually McLarens design teams consist of Brits and their head of engine design is Dutch from memory.

Huag, I thought he was German. Oh well I too can be wrong as well. :)

He's just head of Mercedes motorsport, he's not hands on.

All teams look for the best engineers, no matter where they come from. I can't see the point of arguing about the nationality of team personnel.

I dont really care what nationality they are as well. As long as my team has the best of whatever, they can come from Serbia for all I care. I only brang this up because some bozo had to come up with the stupid comment that all the brains come out of the UK.

You see, there it goes. Mclaren could go under the British, German... even the Kiwi flag, and it would be 'acceptable' (like many other teams). And yet they dont. Again... it doesnt really matter that much......

You are all wrong, the Mechanic's, technicians etc etc, are none European, they are all from an Indian call centre, that takes you 30 minutes to get through to, then you find that your tyre change was mis-interpretated, so that's what happened with Kimi in the last race. I clearly heard him say on the radio that rain wasn't expected and he's coming in for Inter's, but the translation to India went a bit T1ts up so he went out on a dry track with full wets. Thats what happens you see with F1 cost cutting

Thought this might just be appropriate to this thread rather than starting a whole new one:

Baldisserri gets factory role in reshuffle

By Jonathan Noble Monday, April 13th 2009, 15:06 GMT

Ferrari has announced a restructuring of its trackside operations in a bid to turn around its disastrous start to the season - with team manager Luca Baldisserri being switched to a factory-based role.

Following crisis talks at Maranello last week to discuss why the outfit has failed to score a point in the first two races of the year, its worst start to a campaign since 1992, the team has ramped up efforts to ensure it changes the situation as soon as possible.

As part of that bid to help improve the performance, the team has decided to set up a new Working Party to fast-track car improvements that are essential if Kimi Raikkonen and Felipe Massa are to start delivering the results needed to keep them in the title hunt.

This department will be headed by technical director Aldo Costa, with Baldisserri now handed responsibility for coordinating the factory efforts with trackside operations. Work will focus on all areas of car performance, including a double-decker diffuser if the concept is given the green light by the FIA International Court of Appeal this week.

The staff changes mean that Baldisserri will no longer attend races, with his role at the races now being taken by chief track engineer Chris Dyer.

The decision to move Baldisserri away from his trackside role comes after team principal Stefano Domenicali labelled the team's performance in Malaysia, where errors in qualifying and the race cost it dearly, as 'unacceptable'.

"Well, of course it is not a positive weekend," Domenicali told reporters after seeing Massa knocked out early in qualifying and Raikkonen's race wrecked by a wrong switch to wet tyres on a dry track. "It is the second one in a row and it is not good, for sure. Anyway, what we have to do is react immediately.

"The people have to take their own responsibility for things, and this is important in the moment where either from the performance point of view, and the management point of view, things are not going well. This is for sure not acceptable, and I am not accepting that."

As well as the team restructure, Ferrari will bring a host of new parts to this weekend's Chinese Grand Prix - including a revised front wing - which were evaluated by Marc Gene in straight-line testing last week.

Ferrari has also confirmed that design consultant Rory Byrne and chief designer Nikolas Tombazis will represent the team at the FIA International Court of Appeal hearing into the diffusers, which takes place tomorrow.

Well, that is quite drastic!

Yeh its an international team that happens to be UK based.

prob becasuse the UK has excellent motorsport infustucture

got that spot on mate :) uk has best engineers / best brains for the job :P

I agree the facilities are good in the UK, but I doubt they have the best engineers and brains for the job. McLaren has many German Mercedes engineers and in the past Japanese Honda engineers when they were McLaren-Honda. If you want the best brains look towards Germany, Italy and Japan. If you want the best infrusture as in buildings, facilties etc then look towards the UK.

Italy? then why are most of the engineering team who work for ferrari other than about 3 are british ? head of aerodynamics are ferrari is british :P......just to name a few Adrian Newey , Ross Brawn , Sir Frank Williams And Pactrick Head :P
