Interesting technology tidbit that's part of making the show available to us. It's the first time I've come across anything on the topic, pretty cool though.

Omnicorse Ferrari on the SF15-T uses the new telemetry Magneti Marelli. The same technology has also been adopted by the Williams FW37, so all the cars that are turning in collective testing at Jerez have telemetry V2X except McLaren Honda.

What is it? A bi-directional telemetry system (the new solution of Magneti Marelli, in fact, might even make more cars simultaneously communicate with each other!) That incorporates in addition to the data collection function (which remains to Regulation mono directional: from the car to box and not vice versa), even voice.

The radio system, therefore, has been inserted between the communication channels of the car and is full duplex, meaning that the pilot can talk to your engineer, while the technical track can respond immediately without waiting for these concludes his message removing your finger from the button that is on the steering wheel.

Magneti Marelli, in fact, has set up a kind of wi-fi high-tech, so the voice signal is similar to that of voip internet phone like Skype. The "network" is able to absorb up to 25 mega bits per second.

Actually the house Corbetta "unpacks" the signal of each team according to the needs of data communication of each team, being able to customize the service.

Nugnes image you can see the antenna positioned on the pit straight: it is one of the ten that were mounted along the Andalusian track in the days before the Formula 1 test technicians Milan. Serve as AP (access point to the signal) through which data is downloaded in real time.

I bet it still wont work in the Monaco tunnel

actually if they installed enough wifi hotspots it could work, but they would have to switch real quick

nah, another gadget to opiate the tifosi and get them talking with authority about satellite based 100 milli second telemetry sampling systems and about how ferrari are gonna go over to dominate LMP1 with superior ICE engines that clean up the environment and restore fossil fuels to the earth

I can see on other sites Ferrari fans are already getting a boner by looking at headlines of testing days....hahahahahah these guys will never learn.

those rules have been relaxed this year and so perhaps they should have invested in changing their front suspension or started making perfumes instead of 'breaking new technological frontiers in the cutting edge VOIP and cell phone arena'

It reminds me of everyone getting excited about the Williams Renault partnership... that ended well the second time

If 1 name conjures up the essence of F1 over the years weve all been around, everyone has to admit its Mclaren. That is the real fabric of F1, not Ferrari.

cervet will agree with me here - the essence of F1 comes from names like Mclaren, Walker, Player, Tyrell, Lotus, Mclaren Honda, Williams, Brabham, even March, and Ferrari

but McLaren is the essence of the garagista kicking the giant, flashy but lame names like Ferrari all over the place

Mercedes' lap count during this test is very impressive so definitely a strong start from them, Signs are they are really working on reliability this year which was a little weakness last year. Really hoping Red Bull and McLaren get some good running on day 4 and put in a high amount of laps in, they could do with some especially McLaren.

Yeah their focus on reliability is somewhat unnerving considering I want them to beat McLaren and Ferrari this year.

Permission to butcher Rosberg alive for testing the fans lol. We know their car is running half their performance. I think they should focus on how good their reliability really is because I think we all know that the Mercs are sandbagging.
