Problem with todays F1 is if it rains even moderately, you can write the race off. I don't know what happened since the late 90s or even mid 2000s...but F1 has really become a wimpy sport since then. Rain almost = Safety Car and I bloody hate it.

The amount of safety car time during the legendary Canadian Grand Prix was the only downside of that great race.

So you'd rather have cars crashing in every corner? There was huge usage of the safety car due to the Pirelli wets being an unknown quantity. A race like that was bound to happen at some point given the lack of wert running and it was a necessary evil. I doubt we'll see that much safety car during another race now that the teams have got a handle on the Pirelli wets.

Renault reckon they've got an upgrade worth 2 tenths. Might see em have a great fight with Mercedes this weekend.

Would be great to see. Especially when you think..... Renault were getting onto the podium at the start of the season!

I think they have had a windtunnel upgrade and lost a lot of ground when this was being completed... now it is complete they seem to be re-climbing back into being solid Q3 contenders each race.

I would like to see, if Vettel doesn't do it, Hamilton winning. He really needs a little boost.

Isn't Webber the one having problems with KERS? :hehe:

It doesn't really matter to me at this point, since it's a lost cause, why not shoot for greatness in the record books... why not have Vettel run a DNF free season, why not have a most podiums most wins, most everything youngest everything? At least I'll tell my kiddies I witnessed as close to perfection in the sport as you can get.

Well thats a moot point, considering weve seen many super wet GP's and only Nurburg 2007 do i remember cars coming off all the time

I cant believe knowing you as i do your on the safety car side of the argument, rain reduced speed massively, these cars are crashing at 500,000mph in the dry and not a scratch, let alone on a slow speed street track in the wet, theyll be going slow as anything, and in the other tracks they have masses of run off.

Seriously dude the safety car is clue in the name, for when its not safe, wet weather is an added challenge not unsafe. Only monsoons should be safety car or red flagged.

I've watched F1 for too long and spent too much time on YouTube watching crash footage. I don't like seeing huge smashes where someone is hurt.

The point is not moot at all. Citing Nurburgring in 2007 is pointless. Different tyres where the teams knew how the tyres would perform. The problem with Canada is that no one had done any running in rain that bad on the Pirelli's plus the rain was pretty much biblical. Heck some corners had small rivers on them (I think I saw on of the marshall doing a spot of fishing at one point). Yes it was annoying but it was the only sensible thing to do. Are you sue about 500,000mph?

The point about Singapore is that there will be a huge amount of glare from a wet track given the amount of floodlighting. You know when you're driving at night where there are no street lights and the idiot in the on-coming car doesn't dip their haedlights and you can hardly see for a split second? Well imagine that only it's constant for about 2 hours. Now imagine you're on a race circuit with no room for error and you're trying to overtake the guy in front whilst trying to keep the guy behind you behind and you're having a discussion with your engineer. It's beyond dangerous, it's sheer stupidity.

Thats baseless if im honest considering we've never seen a wet singapore Gp, practice or othewise IIRC.

I say we wait till we hear from the drivers about what its like, sometimes your argument is glare, sometimes its safety, if its safety, theye raced around Monaco in the heavy rain and i dont remember any broken nails let alone fatalities.

Also, weve already had a couple of Gp's this year be it practice quali or race where the wet tyres have come out, they now how well they act, they just dont know how long they last, which will hardly cause a huge accident or death given how slow theyll be going once they wear.

Im waiting to see when, or even if knowing the chop and change of it, the wet weather is there to see what to make of it. But i dont think they should be racing under a safety car just cause its wet.

It's not the rain that's the real problem, nor is it the floodlights. It's the combination - floodlighting on a wet track surface that is the problem.

I doubt the Singapore GP would go ahead even with the safety car. If they can't see where they're going then it'll be postponed but we won't know of course until Sunday.
#276195
Meh, whether they do or dont isnt the point, of course they will, the FIA are sissys and so are most of the drivers.

Whether they should is the topic of debate, i dont think they should.
