"I'll say this much. A driver can become a champion when he makes less mistakes than others. Lewis is quick and he has a fantastic car.

"He should have won the title last year and he should have wrapped up the (2008) championship a few races ago. He didn't," Fisichella told the Indian newspaper on a visit to the country.

He insists that Hamilton cannot be compared to F1's recent greats including Michael Schumacher and Ayrton Senna.

"No. He's nothing like them," Fisichella said.

 Tell us how you really feel Fisichella. :hehe:

Now anytime soon, racechick will come on here and criticize Fisichella, claiming he's jealous because Hamilton has accomplished so much more than him.

i'm sorry, but I don't buy this stuff. He beat the two time world champ in the same car in 2007, and he's completely annihilated his team-mate this season. Those are the facts. What's Fisichella talking about, 'should have wrapped up the title' by now...he's on course to become the youngest champion ever in his second F1 season; he's made mistakes, but the fact is he's put himself in a great position to win it.

As for the Senna and Schumacher bit, of course you can't compare them at the moment. But I have a feeling that in 10-15 years time, when people look back on the career of Lewis Hamilton, you might be uttering his name in the same breath as those legends. I don't think Fisichella has the right to say that he's 'nothing like them' whatever else he may say. If he means in terms of talent then he's sadly mistaken

Well, the number of drivers being publicly critical of LH is increasing.

And? Not trying to be funny, but what does that prove? Let's say, just for a moment LH does win 3 or 4 titles, in his career. Then what. Will people still bring up quotes from drivers 10 yrs ago saying, yeah well, he ain't all that and a bag of chips girlfriend. Nu-uh!

If LH wins it this year, he'll already be in the history books.

Drivers bitch about someone most of the time. Usually someone they feel is more talented than them, dents their widdle egos. Alonso, Massa I get - past problems, current rivals etc. Fisi though? C'mon dude. Retire gracefully and spend your middle of the pack millions with some dignity.

Fisi is spot on, Hamilton is just another good driver, nothing special, except his ability to choke, now that was something to marvel at last year, 17 points in 3 races wasn't it

The same could've been said for Jaques Villeneuve. He won the title in his second season as well, but are we looking back and saying "gee Jaques was one helluva a driver" Its too early to say Hamilton will be a great, the day he drives in an average car and beats everyone, then maybe he can be mentioned in the same breath as Senna, Schumacher.

And where was Fisi in his second season of F1? Two spins and two collisions if my recollection serves me correctly. Everyone makes mistakes at this stage in their career, and perhaps the reasons Hamilton is hard to compare with other drivers is firstly that he hasn't yet finished his second season in F1 and secondly that he has had to learn his trade under the most intense scrutiny of any rookie since Jacques Villeneuve, who had already done two years of top-level racing in the States.

J.V. was one helluva driver although short lived, but he managed to win The Cart championship, the Indy 500 and The Formula 1 Championship in just 3 years. Not to shabby. An F1 Legend, no but still a good driver and highly entertaining. ( I am Canadian so Obviously this is just my highly biased opinion).
I agree that the Mclaren is a good car, but I don't think it's the best car on the grid. The Ferrari's have shown more consistent speed and a higher amount of reliability than the Mclarens, yet Hamilton's still beating them.
Furthermore his car control in the wet is the best out of all current drivers, something he does share with all the F1 greats (JV was never good in the wet).

This is a nothing thread. Fisichella has merely stated the truth of the matter, albeit in a begrudging way, which says more about his own jealousy than Hamilton's driving.
