Early June, shortly after her first IndyCar victory at Motegi, Japan a news circulated that Danica Patrick would make her Formula 1 test debut for the Honda team. The reality is quite different today.

It was reported in June that the 26-year-old Patrick was likely to climb aboard the RA108 challenger in November at the Spanish winter test circuits Barcelona or Jerez.

Honda F1 Team boss Nick Fry declared: "What we actually said was that if Danica wants to have a drive in our car at the end of the season, we'd be very open to the idea".

Strangely, a spoke person from the Honda Formula 1 team told us today that the test would not happen.

"We have no current plans to test Danica Patrick," she said

Hmmmm I wonder if a certain Mr N Fry the Super Aguri killer had anything to do with it... or even Button?

A lady tested for one of the F1 teams recently (last few years) - I believe she actually crashed on her first lap out of the pits. Anyone remember who? I believe it could have been Fiona Leggett...

No Nick Fry still still wants to give her a test. Honestly, who cares? She is a worthless driver and is not F1 material.

She is a pretty average driver, I mean yeah she took home a victory this year but that still doesn't account for the fact that she can't consistently beat any of her team-mates, and she acts badly quite often.

All I have to say is, some people complain about Hamilton, Alonso, montoya, whoever, Danica is a lot worse than the lot of them in that respect.

Yeh and it was won by strategy really if you had LH Massa, Kimi etc.. in that car they would of won by over a minute or suchlike

Mansell was a good F1 driver not like Senna or Schui who were great and he went and won the championship reasonably easily at the end of his career

Its nothing against women drivers its just that Indy/Cart is not F1

Not true. I've spoken to several. They seem to struggle to get sponsors to take them seriously, despite their talents, and thus haven't been able to move upwards in their racing careers.

I think that, possibly, the reason women do not do so well in high level motor sport is the physical fitness requirement. Women are not as strong or with the same stamina as men - fact of life, its why there are seperate races for women in athletics and, indeed, all strength / fitness sports.
I think that every team would love to have a woman driver for the glamour / publicity value. Eddie Jordan I remember tried very hard to get a woman driver.
One day, I am sure it will happen. The trouble is though that, if the first F1 female driver is not good, she will damage the prospects of future women.

On the other hand, would a woman be able to park the car properly in the garage? - sorry girls, couldn't resist that one - I am a bloke after all!

I would *love* to be in Formula 1 however given my driving skills on track last weekend, I don't think I should give up the day job

Agree. She's a poor man's Anna Kournikova, and even she wasn't that good in her chosen sport. I've no problems at all with women in motorsport, so long as they are sufficiently talented drivers.

Anna Kournikova is still only 27. Perhaps she could be trained up to be a F1 driver. Would probably get the ratings and viewing figures up.
