Fernando Alonso is the best driver on the grid. Better than Hamilton - because of his experience -, better than Raikkonen - because of his attitude -, better than Massa - because of his better total package of talent. That's my opinion.

I have to admit I hated this guy because of beating my idol - Michael Schumacher - but I've always said he was the coming man, and after two championships won, I still think he's the best driver. Give him the right weapon to fight with, and you'll see he would be the greatest opponent ! Do I like him as a driver...yes. As a person ...no. But hey, I had that same feeling about some german champion back in 1994 ...

Do you remember those cards you used to get when you were a kid which had a picture of of character in whatever it was and statistics on their strengths and weaknesses? The same type of thing could be done for Alonso et al. For instance:

Alonso

Speed: 8/10
Overtaking: 8/10
Defensive driving: 8/10
Car development: 8/10
Fitness: 9/10
Experience: 9/10
Work ethic: 9/10
TOTAL: 59

Raikkonen

Speed: 9.5/10
Overtaking: 7/10
Defensive driving : 7/10
Car development: 5/10
Fitness: 5/10
Experience: 8.5/10
Work ethic: 5/10
TOTAL: 47

Now, all of those are not accurate, nor are they meant to be, but you can see what I mean. There are some areas at which other drivers may be better than Alonso, but they are badly deficient in others. Alonso, however, is consistently very good, so is the better all-round package.

I agree with you

That does have to be taken with a pinch of salt, because not all of the categories should have the same weighting. Eg, speed is surely more important to a driver package than, say, fitness. I'm not saying each isn't important, but some are a lot more crucial to being a good racing driver than others. But I take the general point.

I actually have a pack of F1 top trumps (1991 - 1995) in my room,

and they are AWSOME!!
the cards to have are the 92 Mclaren & 92 Ferrari which are better than the 92 williams but then again reliability should of been a category

I agree. But, like I say, it's only to give a very general idea of what I mean. I couldn't think of a better way of illustrating the point, and well all like Top Trumps. :D:yes:

I'm starting to warm to Alonso again now he's letting his driving do the talking. That's 25 points in the last 5 races with three 4th places and a victory.

He truly is a tremendous driver and even after all I said about him last year I was still pleased to see him on the top step again and hear the Spanish and French anthems together again.

I still hope BMW see sense and don't sign him over Heidfeld who despite his supposed bad season is only 1 point behind Raikkonen for 4th in the championship, and only a few points behind Kubica who has supposedly battered him this year.
